Congratulations to @uwmadison physicist Francis Halzen on receiving the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics!

Halzen is the principal investigator of the @icecube_neutrino Observatory, the world’s largest neutrino telescope, and the Nobel Prize recognizes the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin through IceCube.

Behind those discoveries are decades of scientific collaboration — and significant computing power.

Over the course of its work, the NSF IceCube Neutrino Observatory has developed a longstanding collaboration with UW–Madison’s Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC), a joint endeavor of the @morgridge_inst and @wisconsincs within the College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence.

In February, @wacm_uwm officers Carol Sze (@cgsze), Riya Goel (@riya_goel24), Ojal Prasad (@ojal._.prasad), and Prisha Agarwalla (@prisha.agarwalla) were able to attend @harvardwecode thanks to the funding provided by an anonymous donor.

“As a woman in tech, it’s hard to find community and resources that are tailored to your specific experiences,” says Sze, WACM’s president and a senior at @uwmadison.

WECode offered both in spades, providing career advice in addition to introducing attendees to industry leaders from NASA, Pinterest, Adobe, and beyond.

“WACM has been working hard to build a community for women in STEM at UW–Madison. The biggest barrier we face is simply paying for all of it,” Sze continues.
