The human brain is highly plastic. Rapidly increasing scientific evidence shows that the structure and the function of the brain can be modified through regular movement practices which optimally also include cognitive challenge, emotional expression and social interaction.

WiseMotion is a neuroscience-based movement method combining practices to train physical skills, like balance and mobility, cognitive skills, like memory and concentration, and emotional skills, like self-awareness and social connection.

WiseMotion offers training both online and in person for healthcare professionals to apply movement, meditation and music in rehabilitation, and to understand their underlying brain mechanisms. The WiseMotion method has been applied for people with MS disease, dementia and stroke in collaboration with the Finnish Neuro ( @neuroliitto ) and Brain Associations ( @aivoliitto ), Alzheimer Society of Finland ( @muistiliitto ) and Sanitas Health Insurance (@sanitas ).

Welcome to my soul’s landscape, as we say in Finnish (sielunmaisema, also Seelenlandschaft in German)!

On August 6th-9th, I’ll have a great pleasure to invite you to experience that landscape with me. We will gather for the annual WiseMotion Retreat Lapland on the serene @ainoprivateislandhotel which combines luxury hospitality to peaceful untouched nature.

AINO is a beautiful island near Rovaniemi, Finland and a sister hotel of @arctictreehousehotel . The private island offers us the perfect surroundings to immerse into overall wellbeing, brain health and vitalizing movement exercises. We will learn how our bodies can support our mental performance, creativity and emotional wellbeing, all backed by the latest brain research.

AINO has only seven rooms, so we will have an opportunity for an intimate gathering away from the crowds and noise in the pleasant temperatures and white nights of the idyllic Nordic summer.

The retreat is hosted by Dr. Hanna Poikonen, the founder of WiseMotion and senior researcher at ETH Zurich. She’s a neuroscientist and dancer with two decades of experience in science and movement practices to enhance mental performance, improve focus and creativity and support emotional wellbeing.

You are warmly invited to join us for the WiseMotion Retreat in Lapland of Finland on August 6th - 9th 2026:

Aivoterveys on muutakin kuin ristikoita: Aivot syttyvät tanssin tuomasta liikkeestä, haasteesta ja ilosta.

Neurotieteen tohtori Hanna Poikonen @wisemotionco on tutkinut tanssin vaikutusta aivotoimintaan ja kuntouttaa muun muassa muistisairaita, MS-tautia sairastavia ja aivoverenvuodosta toipuvia tanssin avulla.

“Paras tapa luoda neuroplastisuutta aikuisen aivoihin on liike rikastetussa ympäristössä. Tanssi yhdistää musiikkia, vuorovaikutusta ja kosketusta, sosiaalista kanssakäymistä ja visuaalista estetiikkaa.”

Jo 2–3 tanssikertaa viikossa voi tutkimusten mukaan aiheuttaa aivoissa plastisia muutoksia.

Miten tanssijan aivot eroavat tanssiesitystä katsoessa? 💃

Hanna Poikonen (@wisemotionco, TikTokissa @wisemotionco ja Facebookissa Hanna Poikonen) on neurotieteen tohtori, jonka hankkeessa "Neuropolitics and international relations" selvitetään, miten yksilöt muodostavat ja säilyttävät poliittisia asenteitaan kansainvälisen yhteistyön kysymyksissä.

Hankkeessa yhdistetään kansainvälisten suhteiden tutkimus ja neurotiede. Kokeissa mitataan aivotoimintaa EEG-laboratoriossa sekä live-äänestystilanteessa, jotta voidaan ymmärtää, miksi jotkut pitävät kiinni mielipiteistään, vaikka heille esitetään vasta-argumentteja.

Tavoitteena on paljastaa, millaisia neuropsykologisia prosesseja liittyy yksilöiden poliittisiin asenteisiin ja niiden muutokseen kansainvälisissä kysymyksissä.

When my friend Hanna, a Finnish professional dancer, asked me to photograph her and her partner in Barcelona, I knew it would be a session full of movement and meaning.

Hanna used to be my roommate when I lived in Barcelona many years ago, and we would often do dance photoshoots together. It was so special to recreate our shared history with the love of her life, Aleix.

NEURO-SCIENCE and MOVEMENT
are connected in unique method by @wisemotionco and Dr. Hanna Poikonen, to create a frame for wellbeing and success ✨

Happy to experience this method first hand in the magical #Lapland, #Finland💙 and continue my researches on healing and developing with arts that started many years ago during my studies in History of Arts in Athens: the ancient Greeks had Medical institutions where the physically or mentally sick people were „treated“ with theatre, dance, music and painting. The ideas were somehow integrated in our concept of dance classes in ART POINT, but now with the scientific explanation and backing, we can focus on different areas of development, based on movement that effect brain structures and areas.

Stay tinned on workshops and retreats with Hanna and other experts in the area in our NEURO-DANCE LAB 🤍

Enjoy your time wherever you are!
Greetings from #rovaniemi #finland 🌞
