These are the types of moments that are not talked about enough on these farmsteading pages. It’s not flashy or trendy, happy-go-lucky or feel good fluff… this is life. This is death. This is the side of farming that does not feel good and is most viscerally real; having to be strong enough to limit the suffering of a friend when everything inside of you is screaming for you to just run away. You can’t. You do what you must and hope it doesn’t harden you from the joys.

Sausinger was one of the first of our flock that we raised from a tiny little fluff ball. She was a great hen and provided for us in reciprocity for many years. She was certainly the sweetest of our hens and never shied when we reached to pick her up. You will always be remembered sweet Sausinger. Rest well now.

Growing our own food has been such a blessing, immensely rewarding in every way. Of all the kinds of work I thought I could do with my life, this has been the best. Raising these beautiful plants alongside my beautiful children has truly been like witnessing a masterpiece unfolding before me. I couldn’t have come this far without any of them, and @mamajuanameditate especially 😘

Update 2/13/2026

I don’t even know what to say anymore yall. Chunka has been gone for 3 months, with barely a single affirmative report or location, and we’re no closer to finding her. I’ve followed every lead to no avail, and I feel like I’ve just been searching through the same forests and the same streets looking for a ghost. Someone called me recently asking “if it was time to just take the signs down”, calling them trash and clutter. It’s discouraging, and while it upset me that someone could be so callous I felt like he might have a point. My efforts don’t seem to be getting us any closer to bringing her home.

Nevertheless we gotta stay positive, right?!? And it would be unfair not to mention the overwhelming love and support we’ve received from the community who have all rallied to help find her. Thank you all so very much!

On January 1, we received a call about a dog matching her description near the Woodmont roundabout on E. Cherokee Rd. that was corroborated by another shortly after. If this was her, she could be making her way south towards Union Hill or Birmingham or Holly Springs or even Milton. There’s really no telling…

We’ve done nearly everything we can think of — flyers, signs, drones, regularly checking multiple animal shelters — the works. And we’ll continue to do so.

If you live in the lower Ball Ground area, hunt in the McGraw Ford WMA, or are around Macedonia, Canton, Free Home, etc., please keep an eye out for our girl.

Rott/Hound mix, presents hound. 9 years old, spayed. No chip. Multicolored camo collar. Black coat with brown eyebrows and markings, white on chest and socks, gray around the muzzle.

At this point, we are offering a reward for any reliable information and means of getting our girl home. If you know anything, please contact us! If you’ve seen her, know of someone who has seen her, anything! We just want her home, no questions asked!

Update 2/05/2026

Many of you know Chunka by now. The support that we’ve received on her behalf has been amazing. I appreciate yall so much!

She’s been missing for 11 weeks and we have yet to get a clear answer on her whereabouts. On January 1, we received a call about a dog matching her description near the Woodmont roundabout on E. Update 1/14

It’s been two months today since Chunka disappeared, and she still hasn’t come home.

In some ways it feels a little easier, and in other ways a little harder. The space she left is still very real. The love and support we’ve received throughout this has been such a blessing and has helped carry us through the hardest moments. We haven’t lost hope. Each day brings its own mix of grief and faith, and we still believe she’s finding her way back to us.

We’ve done nearly everything we can think of — flyers, signs, drones, regularly checking two different county animal shelters — the works. And we’ll continue to do so.
