Herzliche Einladung zur Ausstellungseröffnung morgen nach Langenhagen!

Ich zeige in der Gruppenausstellung den Beginn einer neuen Werkgruppe und würde mich freuen Euch zu sehen.

Ausstellung vom 7. Juni bis 12. Juli 2026
Im Kunstverein Langenhagen mit Bildern und Objekten von François Joseph Chabrillat, Sophia Havanna Huth, Reinhard Mucha, A.R. Penck, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Jonas Roßmeißl, Arne Schmitt, Katharina Sieverding, Günther Uecker, Christoph Wiedemann, Alex Wissel und Viola Yesiltaç.

Konzipiert hat Steffen Zillig die Gruppenausstellung in Zusammenarbeit mit seinen Künstlerkollegen Jonas Roßmeißl und Alex Wissel.

Zur Eröffnung am Samstag den 6. Juni 2026 (ab 17 Uhr) hält Florian Waldvogel Kurator am Tiroler Landesmuseum einen Vortrag zum historischen Ausstellungsprojekt Westkunst (1981) von László Glózer und Kasper König.

Ende letzten Jahres habe ich mir zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben ein signiertes Bild von einem Künstler gekauft. Mir war sofort klar, dass mich dieses Bild länger begleiten würde.

Es heißt „Habermas fragmentiert“ (Nr. 8) und wurde im Rahmen von „Kunst im Foyer“ im @blnensemble ausgestellt.

Alex Wissels (@wissel.alex) Ausstellung „Die geistig-moralische Wende“ umfasst unter anderem seine Habermas-Zeichnungen, die sich auf die Kommunikationstheorie von Jürgen Habermas beziehen – ein Konzept, das das kulturelle Verständnis der öffentlichen Debatte in Deutschland seit 1945 maßgeblich geprägt hat.

„Strukturwandel der Öffentlichkeit“, „Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns“, der „zwanglose Zwang des besseren Arguments“ und ein „Bewusstsein von dem, was fehlt“: Jürgen Habermas (1929-2026) hat den philosophischen Diskurs der letzten 60 Jahre beeinflusst wie kaum ein anderer.

Ich kann mich noch sehr gut an ein Seminar über die „Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns“ an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf erinnern. Oder an einen meiner ersten philosophischen Vorträge vor einem größeren akademischen Publikum an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München zum Thema „Ästhetisches Erkenntnisinteresse und literarische Artikulationsform“, bei dem ich mich auf das Buch „Erkenntnis und Interesse“ (1968) von Jürgen Habermas bezog.

So richtig in seinen Bann gezogen hatte Habermas mich dann bei der Lektüre von „Die Zukunft der menschlichen Natur. Auf dem Weg zu einer liberalen Eugenik?“.

Von da an war (auch) mir klar, dass er nicht nur zu den größten Denkern der Philosophie des 20. Jahrhunderts zählte, sondern auch aktuelle Fragestellungen zu Wissenschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft äußerst spannend zuspitzen und weiterdenken konnte. So zum Beispiel auch in seinen kleinen politischen Schriften, hier exemplarisch „Im Sog der Technokratie“.

Seinen Tod nehme ich jetzt zum Anlass, das Bild endlich rahmen zu lassen und ihm einen besonderen Platz zu geben.

Damit es mich jedes Mal daran erinnert: diese geistig-moralische Wende wird mich im Denken, Leben und Schreiben begleiten, was auch immer in #Zukunft noch auf uns zukommt.

TIPP! • MULTIVERSUM @ MALKASTEN

Karneval, Kunst und Kontrollverlust – willkommen im Multiversum! Der @kuenstlerverein_malkasten wird am Karnevalssamstag, dem 14. Februar 2026, zum lebendigen, tickenden Multiversum, initiiert von @wissel.alex. Für Alex Wissel ist es die erste Veranstaltung in dieser Größenordnung seit dem legendären Single Club – und genau das spürt man: groß gedacht, radikal offen, jenseits aller festen Zeitachsen. Gemeinsam mit 50 Künstler:innen, Bands, den Bildhauerei-Klassen der Kunstakademie Kopenhagen und der Kunsthochschule Kiel sowie mehreren DJ-Sets verwandelt sich der Malkasten in einen einzigartigen Space zwischen Raum und Zeit. Es gibt zwei große, gestaltete Räume – und in einem davon läuft die Zeit rückwärts.

Zeitläufe drehen sich, ein Tag und eine Nacht, gleichzeitig, gegensätzlich, in allen Häusern. Welche Zeit, welche Reihenfolge und wo sind wir als ich und Du als Gruppe? Wie viele Menschen bin ich eigentlich und wie viele Orte gibt es für uns? Internationale Künstlerinnen und Künstler agieren lokal, zeit- und grenzenlos – vor Ort, im Haus, im Multiversum der Räume und Zeiten.

Zwölf Stunden lang, vom Valentinstag zum Tulpensonntag, könnt Ihr die vielfältigen Realitäten in verschiedenen Galaxien überraschend und ohne doppelten Boden entdecken. Der Einlass ins Multiversum erfolgt mit Kostüm. Um 16 Uhr geht’s los – bis um 4 Uhr in die Nacht. Freut Euch auf ein einzigartiges Erlebnis, das alle Wahrnehmungen auf den Kopf stellen wird!

The exhibition leads us back to the foundations of human coexistence. It invites visitors to gather around questions of living, owning, and sharing, and to envision a just and sustainable future. - K21

A twenty-meter-wide canvas hanging above the piazza of K21 is from Alex Wissel’s stage design for director Jan Bonny’s interpretation of “Götz von Berlichingen, Eisenfaust” at the Schauspieler Köln (2025). The painting is reproduced after “The Triumph of Death“ by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, which depicts then-new dimension of violence in the religious wars of the 16th century, in which skeletons chase humans.

3. Alex Wissel questions the legacy of the German Peasants’ War (Deutscher Bauernkrieg) in wall drawings depicting Farmer’s protests then and now.
(500 years ago, at the beginning of printing and financial capitalisam, German farmers rose up against privatization and an increasingly opaque network of duties and taxes. The crux on the issue is self-governance.)

“Katechon“

Exhibition: December 6, 2025 – February 14, 2026
Galerie Nagel Draxler, Berlin

“Lately, I have been thinking a lot about my Catholic upbringing. And how strange I find it that
it is currently helping me better process the political situation and the perceived dissolution of
the current social order.

The term “katechon” comes from Carl Schmitt’s political theology and has been discussed for
several years, particularly in the macro-theories of nationalist and libertarian circles. It refers to
a specific political principle or view of history that originates from Paul’s Second Letter to the
Thessalonians, used to create a political figure who will stop the impending apocalypse. Like
me, Schmitt was socialized in the Catholic petty bourgeoisie.(…)

For the production of the exhibition, I attempted to activate my bodily memory in order to
approach a specific form of masculinity that is currently gaining influence in right-wing populist
movements worldwide, and which I see as directly related to the figure of the Katechon.

This temporary embodiment was the impetus for finding images related to current and histori-
cal apocalyptic thinking. ‚The enemy is my own question as a figure.‘ “

Next Friday, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., the opening of my solo exhibition „Katechon“ will take place at the Nagel Draxler Gallery in Berlin. The Berliner Ensemble and Galerie Nagel Draxler are pleased to present a new exhibition in the series Kunst im Foyer, initiated by Dr. Corina Krawinkel and Dr. Max Krawinkel.
As of September 13, 2025, the foyer of the Neues Haus will feature new and existing works by artist Alex Wissel.

Wissel’s practice spans drawing, painting, sculpture, film, and theater. In his work, he critically engages with the construction of history and develops alternative narratives.

“In 1982, former history student Helmut Kohl becomes Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. In the 1980s, the “spiritual and moral turnaround” is the slogan with which conservatism seeks to assert itself against the dominance of the ideas of 1968.(…)
In 1984, Martin Kippenberger paints the picture “Ich kann beim besten Willen kein Hakenkreuz erkennen” (I cannot recognize a swastika with the best will in the world).(...)
In 1986, historian Ernst Nolte published the article “The Past That Will Not Pass Away” in the FAZ newspaper, thereby sparking the Historians‘ Dispute.(…)“

“Was the ‚intellectual and moral shift’ of the 1980s the precursor to the current ’vibe shift’? Are the 1980s the unconscious of the present? Or is it all just a constant loop of conservative revolution?“

“These are some of the questions I have been asking myself for the past few months. I would also like to invite other people to join the discussion. Together with director Jan Bonny, I am working on an experimental essay film entitled “HA HA M.K.B.H. What is worse than losing?” In the production, we are guided by methods from history workshops of the 1970s. In the exhibition, we are showing a kind of trailer to give an impression of the film.“
