I have never done one of these posts

But I promised I would if I reached 4k and I have recently, due to a couple of high performing posts - thank you everyone for stopping by, reading my ramblings, liking and commenting and to all the other creators who pop some love and laughs on my posts.

I am Charlotte I live in Bristol, a city I love it has such a great energy and the people are friendly. I started this account in 2020, with no real purpose, a wallpaper brand asked if they could share one of my posts about my bedroom, so I created an interiors account, I really didn’t expect to still be doing this 6 years later, but I do enjoy the creative outlet, the writing, the taking photos and chatting to the other creators.

I first became interested in interiors at around 10 years old, I used to collect paint charts and wonder why my parents would insist on painting their entire house white, especially when they had an army of messy kids. I first experienced the love of colour (how calming and magical it was) in my Nan’s bedroom, painted in a duck egg blue, to this day the mix of blue and green fills me with heady delight.

Confession time - I did paint a room grey, in the mid 00s but to be fair everyone was. But I only have one whitish room in my home now. Pink is my neutral. This is my second colourful house and the first one that has really felt like home, we bought it in 2014 and it needed a full reno. I love pattern, wallpaper and mid century modern furniture and repurposing. I also love fashion, like my home I mix old and new.

What is a Ver-bee-na bench?

A place to watch the bees 🐝, my own little slice of nature, a place to sit and relax and watch the bees up close and personal as they go about their pollinating business.

You have gotta love a piece of multifunctional furniture and this little bench definitely has it, it wears many hats, from alfresco breakfast spot, to coffee and flop spot, a place to relax with a book and listen to the wasps munching on this ugly fence, plus it’s light enough to move around the garden to where the action is 😂

Bench life - urban garden - pollinators - bee friendly - verbenas - perennial plants

Endless summer

It is a miracle in the UK to have 2 weeks of uninterrupted sunshine, we will be talking about 2026 in years to come.

My week in pictures.

All week I had hatched a plot to go to the beach on Saturday, as one of 4 children, we spent a lot of days at the beach (it was affordable day out) and it will always have that happy nostalgic feel that makes me feel all warm and happy, the leaving the beach, slightly sandy, getting into a hot car and feeling utter happiness and love for your family 😂.

We went to Lyme Regis, our nearest sandy nice beach, we swam, we had prawn sandwiches, we avoided the marauding sea gulls, we had ice cream, we did a bit of shopping and ended the day with ice creams. It was the perfect day.

The rest of the week wasn’t bad.

How was yours? Are you a beach lover or a hater?

It’s so easy to say that’s not my taste when viewing a house.

But what if that house was the only one that you could afford in the location you wanted to live in, now it seems a bit more appealing.

When you move in, you think everything has to go, but the beauty of having a small budget, or in our case no budget 😂. You have to live with the previous owners decor for years, but sometimes with that time can come clarity and compromise and you start to think, oh that green bath is actually beautiful, it’s just the 3 different types of tiles hanging off the wall and the rotten floor that I don’t actually like.

If you rip everything out you are evaporating the history of your home and all the things that made your house unique from Bob’s down the road. The best homes form over time and retain a little bit of previous owners stories and the decades they were living there .

FYI - there is no Bob, well not that i know of

What is everyone doing in 2026?

My mums doing it, my mates done it and I was influenced to do it when I saw it on my instagram feed. It’s adding a water feature, but even better if the pond is made out of an item you already own.

This discarded urn style pot, once resided in the centre of our garden, right smack bang in the centre of the lawn, it then sat unloved, in a bush, waiting to probably go to the tip or go on Facebook Market place, it was not the pot that was ugly it was just its placement. Now it adds some much needed interest at the bottom of the garden and I find myself walking to the bottom of the garden a couple of times a day, just to inspect it and see if the fountain in gently gurgling.

A week of early morning walks, fractious sleep and arguments

Tell me you are in a UK heatwave if you have not had a random row with someone about nothing 😂

I went to see not one but 2 movies, The Invite a rare adult movie, about very adult subject matter, that made me laugh and well up, the way Penelope Cruz describes the menopause to a man, is so erudite. I would highly recommend.

Sunday I flipped the bird at adulting and went to see, Minions and Monsters with my daughter. She loved the movie, I enjoyed the air con and the M&S lunch I snaffled in.

I also met an Insta pal @edible_deb_at_melvin IRL, we talked about gardens, heat and neuro diversity while also slightly losing the plot due to the heat, it was lovely to meet her and we had a lovely chat.

Vinted obsession

What I bought and how I wore it, my recent second hand clothes purchases from the last few months.

I have always bought a mixture of old and new clothes, when Ebay first launched I spent most of my wages on there and Vinted is my now go to app for second hand clothes, it’s cheaper the UI is more immersive.

I do love a good peruse around a charity shop, sometimes my local one yields a good find, but there is always a certain excitement in visiting a thrift shop in a different area or a quaint seaside town, they always have the best ceramics and brick a brack I find. Also the weird and wonderful, there is always a slight element of nostalgia and ephemera in some of them to and they add a real sense of community to local high streets and offer jobs and assistance to people who need them.

Top tip never shop solely in your own size, as oversized things might fit you, the Ghost Dress was labelled a size large, but it was more like a 12.

We hit summer for reals

My week in pictures - a quiet week for me, we moved into July a week spent at home, mostly not sleeping.

I had my sister and friend over for dinner, the resident chef was out at a gig, so I did a strange thing and cooked and it did not suck and I kind of enjoyed it, pre covid I did used to cook and I am a pretty intuitive cook, I make up my own recipes. But I lost the love.

What I made:

Pistachio pesto which I drizzled over an avocado, tomato and burrata salad; I handed people a bag of rocket to garnish, by then I had drank a bit too much prosecco. Hosting skills = zero

A prawn, bulgur wheat and smoked paprika tomato stew. My partner demolished the rest when he got home from The Thekla.

Garden news - we have made a water feature and we bought a banana plant and help I can’t stop buying things on Vinted!

Happy summer Sunday

A single image throwing it back to a simpler time on Instagram.

I used to hate Sunday as a kid; it was long uneventful and we usually went to church in the morning. The most exciting thing that could happen on a Sunday in the 80s was a trip to Great Mills the B and Q of its days.

This is a still of my recent charity shop find, a red ceramic lamp with the lampshade that I made for it, with fabric I bought a life time ago and forgot I even still had and it just happened to be the perfect shade of red. A very happy accident and it now creates what I wanted to buy from expensive retailers for the price of a fiver, which in some pricey neighbourhood you can pay for a cup of coffee these days, I see you Sandbanks.

It’s not perfect - but it’s ours

When we bought our ramshackle house, the only thing about it which was in good condition was the garden, it wasn’t to our taste, there was too many statues, link chain fences and pots. But over time we have added more insect friendly perennials and now we seem to be going into a hotter and hotter climate; drought tolerant plants.

This weekend we added a Muntjack deer to the animals seem in our garden, nobody was more surprised than cousin Treaco (my sister’s dog)

Possibly the best week ever

A week of great gigs, hot hot nights and coastal breezes

I started the week in Bristol, sweltering in the urban heat and I ended it down by the sea in Dorset. I spent all week fantasising about that first dip in the sea, by Thursday it was the only thing keeping me going, I literally threw myself in at Lulworth cove, its deep, clear, cold waters, washing away the heatwave and filled me with relief. I then got in the beach sauna, which seemed a bit counter intuitive but heh.

My sister and I spent 2 amazing nights in Dorset, one at Durdle Door staying in a pod, we swam in the clear waters of Man O War watched singing ticktokers, filming themselves in the sea and geologists admiring rock formations, kids spraying each other with water pistols and we admired the calming forest of kelp under the water: everyone happy that the heat wave was over and now it was well just pleasant. We ate fantastic food at The Castle Inn.

We then moved onto the metropolis of Weymouth, at least it felt that way after the ancient charms of West Lulworth. Our run of culinary excellence continued we happened upon this amazing authentic Spanish Tapas restaurant, it felt more like private dinning, there was only 6 customers and we were the lucky final 2. On Sunday we witnessed the other end of the dinning spectrum, when a man on the beach, experienced a seagull literally took food out of his mouth. He was not impressed and quite shocked; his kids were well kids about it.

Confessions from a heatwave

I have been a bit silent on here this week as I have been too hot for insta 😂. I swear my body has swollen in size, but amongst the sleepless nights and my new chosen bed partner, a freezer block, lost words and hot arse working conditions of a home worker, there has been so many good bits, coffee and breakfast in my garden, trips to Aldi always have to include an iced drink pit stop, my house maybe chaos, strewn clothes litter every room as 3 people try to stay cool. My daughter is off school, which is nice, but the 3 of us in a baking lounge has been no picnic. Hot food is a thing of the past, it’s salads on repeat and things on frozen sticks. But sometimes you have to make time for the fun stuff, it would of been so tempting not to go and see The Cure in Cardiff yesterday, but I would of bitterly regretted it, we added so much ice to wine and drank oodles of water and sweated it out on a coach, with ineffective air-con, but it was worth it, sharing the experience of a heatwave is so much more fun than spending it by yourself. But today (Thursday) has been a real struggle, but I am going to pick myself up, pop down to the Harbour side at 9ish and catch some of The Streets set for free on the opposite side of the harbour with some Christmas cocktails 😂 taken in Bristol, United Kingdom by @witchs_cat_decor
