Sold some records, bought some records. Man do I absolutely love Sonic Boom in Toronto 😍 Sometimes I miss living across the street from them but it’s probably best for our wallets that we don’t 😄 Excuse the plastic glare not unwrapping everything until we’re home. Was in Toronto briefly last week and was able to catch the @xmadmx exhibition “Melissa Auf der Maur - My 90’s Rock Photographs” @agotoronto 💗 So damn good for the soul! Took my time strolling around listening to Auf der Maur, Hole & the Pumpkins on my beloved refurbished iPod as my personal accompanying soundtrack to her fascinating work. Auf der Maur’s photography is wonderfully rich, evocative and a hugely interesting glimpse into such a formative time period in music history. For a moment I stepped back into the 90s myself, a lovely bit of sensory bliss flipping through Black’s photography albums of 1-hour developed photos. I resonate a lot with Auf der Maur’s background and how she shot - I grew up in Ottawa (2 hours away from Montreal) and was very drawn to photography as a young teenager in the early 90’s as well. I used to shoot on my Dad’s Minolta camera 📷 from the 70’s or simple point & click cameras. I mostly photographed my day-to-day life, high school for the yearbook & friends as well as documenting all-ages shows and bands for an older friends zine, developing photos at 1-hour photo processing places too. So wild to think this woman I adored and looked up to was capturing her experiences at the same time through a similar lens. The exhibition is on at the AGO till June and I highly recommend it if you’re able to catch it. It’s especially meaningful if like me you’re a fan of Hole/the Smashing Pumpkins and experienced the 90’s alternative scene. Happy Birthday to absolute legend Siobhan Fahey 🖤 when I was a wee preteen I was obsessed with Shakespears Sister. I’d listen to “Hormonally Yours” repeatedly on my walkman, a definite road trip staple as the world flew by my view in the backseat of the car. I remember taping the “Stay” video off Much Music for repeated watching as well, just enamoured with the beauty and darkness of it all. Raven haired queens were few and far between when I was that age and I was utterly entranced by Siobhan. Subconsciously I realize now, I styled my hair just like hers in the Stay video for years, long black ringlets with a centre part and no bangs 🖤 this banger of a tee by the way is from @littlescorpiontees 🖤 by @witchyagogo

40 year ago today “Labyrinth” was released in cinemas on June 27th, 1986. A favourite film of mine since childhood. I always joked if it were I instead of Sarah my Brother would totally have been turned into a Goblin (don’t think he’d mind it really, right Craig? 😄) and I’d be off hanging with the Goblin King 👑 80’s Fantasy films left a lasting mark on me with their mesmerizing worlds, enchanting (and sometimes morally grey) characters, ingenious & creative practical effects, sumptuous costuming, and epic storytelling. They raised me with a healthy dose of darkness, magic and wonder. Last Friday @tilttoronto with @angelemma & @calebloki 😍❤️ Had a brilliant time playing tourist in my own country while Emma & Caleb were over from the UK 🇬🇧 My first time checking out Tilt Arcade Bar in Toronto, such a great concept and had an absolute blast. Mario Kart always so much fun. They had “Contra” as well, which was a favourite of mine & my Brother growing up (Craig - we totally have to go so I can steal all the good weapons from you again 😜) taken in Tilt Toronto by @witchyagogo
