Some habits get you through high school… but will have you STRUGGLING in college 😭🎓

College comes with way more freedom, but also way more responsibility. The sooner you learn how to manage your time, protect your focus, take care of yourself, and stop comparing your journey to everyone else’s, the better.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. Learn, adjust, and keep going.

21 years on Earth today. 🎂

It’s crazy to think about how many different eras of myself I’ve lived through already.

Different dreams, friendships, environments, struggles, interests, and versions of who I thought I was going to become.

Some phases I miss. Some I’m glad I outgrew. And some completely changed the direction of my life.

And maybe you need this reminder too: you’re allowed to change.

You don’t have to be the same person you were a year ago. You can change your mind, outgrow people, discover new passions, start over, and become someone you never imagined.

Life can change tremendously in a short amount of time.

I’m grateful for every version of myself that got me here, and I hope you learn to appreciate every version of yourself too.

Here’s to another era. Chapter 21. 🥂

Nobody really prepares you for how weird your first year of college can feel. 🎓

One minute you’re excited about the freedom, meeting new people, and starting a new chapter. The next, you’re sitting in your dorm questioning your major, your friendships, your finances, and whether you’re doing college “right.”

The truth is: nobody has it completely figured out.

Freshman year is trial and error. You’ll meet people you eventually outgrow, spend money you wish you saved 😭, miss opportunities because you were scared, and make mistakes nobody warned you about.

But you’ll also learn how to manage your time, choose your circle, advocate for yourself, and become more independent.

Leave your dorm. Go to events. Talk to your professors. Visit Career Services. Apply for opportunities. Meet new people. And actually enjoy being a college student.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just make sure you’re growing along the way.

Coming from a junior… it goes by faster than you think.

Social media will have you thinking everyone is winning 24/7.

Truth is, behind every opportunity I post, there are rejections. Behind every piece of content that performs well, there are posts that flop. Behind every accomplishment, there are moments where I still wonder if I’m doing enough.

I’m learning to be just as proud of the attempts that didn’t work out as the ones that did.

Because at least I tried.

You can’t flop at something you were too scared to attempt.

I’m going into my junior year, and college has humbled me in ways a classroom never could.

I’ve learned that seeing someone every day doesn’t make them a friend. That staying quiet can cost you opportunities. That nobody is coming to build the life you want for you. And that some of the smallest decisions where you sit, who you talk to, what you say yes to, even locking your dorm door can shape your entire college experience.

Freshman year, I didn’t know what I know now. I’m still learning, still making mistakes, and definitely don’t have college figured out.

But that’s exactly why I make posts like this.

Sometimes the advice you need most isn’t in the syllabus it comes from someone just a few steps ahead of you.

I used to think getting older automatically made you wiser. It doesn’t. Paying attention does.

These are a few lessons I wish someone had told me when I was 15. They would’ve saved me time, mistakes, and a lot of unnecessary stress.

If you’re younger than me, I hope this gives you a head start. If you’re older, I hope it reminds you of something you wish you’d known sooner.

Basketball was a huge part of my life growing up.

I played throughout elementary, middle school, and high school, traveled off-island to compete, and like many kids, I dreamed of taking the game as far as I could.

Growing up in the U.S. Virgin Islands meant there were fewer opportunities, less exposure, and limited resources compared to athletes on the mainland. Looking back, there are a few things I wish someone had told me while I was chasing that dream.

This post isn’t meant to tell anyone to give up.

It’s meant to remind you to dream big and prepare wisely.

Work on your game. But also work on your education, your network, your character, and skills outside of basketball. The ball will eventually stop bouncing for almost everyone, but the habits, discipline, and lessons you gain can take you anywhere.
