WITHIN COLLECTIVE. Born from a character I play on @soulcity_sa who made me look beyond the screen. What began as a story quickly turned into a movement to uncover what lies beneath the scene. CINEMA. STORYTELLING. CONVERSATION.

A powerful story can make people feel something.

WITHIN Collective is asking what happens next.

At Pule Buys’s inaugural Beyond the Screen gathering in Johannesburg, an exclusive Soul City: Let’s Rise screening opened into a much larger conversation about gender-based violence, storytelling and responsibility.

Filmmakers.

Activists.

Soul City Institute.

Government.

Media.

Different people asking versions of the same question:

What is a story supposed to do after the credits?

One of the strongest ideas in the room was simple:

Do not stop speaking because the subject has become uncomfortable.

Showing violence is not the same as dismantling it.

Starting a conversation is not the same as changing a system.

And awareness can become another temporary cultural moment if nobody carries it forward.

For Buys, the journey itself already makes the argument.

She played Samke.

Samke raised questions.

Those questions became WITHIN.

And WITHIN created a room where the screen was only the beginning.
