Saw a beautiful version of this post from @gracealexanderflowers and been meaning to do it ever since, so here we are.One woman, 7 passions1. BOOKS. Reading them, reading about them, listening to them, using them as props, not to mention bookshops!2. THEATRE. As a once a year childhood treat, my mum & grandma would take me to see a ballet or an opera. We’d dress up, buy the programme and escape reality for just a few hours. I’ve been hooked ever since.3. INTERIORS. Since my red, black & white diagonal print 80’s wallpaper I’ve been obsessed with interiors. Choosing new looks for my own home or capturing the incredible work of talented designers, I’m happy.4. DOGS. Mine & other peoples,every shape and size, I adore them all.5. FILMS. Best enjoyed in an indie cinema, solo.6. MY FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS. I spent way too long believing other women were to be feared but no more. I’ve never experienced anything as special as the relationships I now have with incredible women and can’t imagine where I’d be without them 🙏 7. CORNWALL. My happiest of happy places. I never feel more myself than when I’m there. There were other passions that didn’t make the shortlist…. great coffee, art galleries, beautiful body art, podcasts and triangles (yep, you heard right) and of course photographing women!Could you name 7 of yours? Every networking event for women looked the same. Show up, work the room, do the small talk, collect business cards, go home.Rinse. Repeat. Feel nothing. Enough berating other women. We’ve a tough enough time of it without turning on each other. For centuries we’ve been pitted against each other. Encouraged to compete for (largely men’s) attention in order to survive and so turning on our ‘competition’ kinda made sense. I’ve long believed this is why we see our teenage girls often being mean to each other, it’s generational trauma still playing out. But we stopped needing to do that for survival a long time ago. In fact, the more we can turn our backs on this and instead support each other, the more magical and easy it can become.And it’s not wrong to still struggle with this, it takes time and courage to break free of this conditioning but the next time you catch yourself judging another women or girl ask yourself this. ‘What do I see in her that I actually admire and want to do more/be more of myself? I want to try something different today.Not a lesson. Not a reframe. Just a question.Because I honestly believe we don’t talk enough about the women who’ve lifted us.The ones who said the right thing at the right moment. Who showed up without being asked. Who saw something in us before we could see it in ourselves.We’re quick to remember the ones who let us down. It’s human nature. But the ones who lifted us, do they know what they did for you?So tell me below. Spent way too long worrying about text layouts and then realised the irony of overthinking it! So yes.You have to care more about the work you do, than the discomfort of sharing it. How blooming true is that!Whether it’s your art, your products, the services you provide. Care more about THAT, and the way THAT makes people feel, and the discomfort not only doesn’t matter, but it’ll prob feel easier anyway.And also feeling safe matters. I’m sick of the bypassing ‘JUST POST’, ‘POST EVERY DAY’, ‘BE CONSISTENT’ bollo🔥ks that’s everywhere. You do you. Breathe. Share what feels good and when feels good…but also know the end result is your connection with others. That’s the gold.Over and out. Just look at this ABSOLUTE QUEEN!!!I ADORED this shoot with @thelifeofdanielle_ @danielledance for so many reasons.1. We’ve been on this journey together for several years now, supporting each other, so seeing her absolutely shine like this is super rewarding 2. She loves dance and empowering women. We were never NOT going to get along.3. We challenged each other to be more creative. Danielle with her moves, me with my camera.I’m DEFINITELY up for more dance shoots!
