It’s deafeningly quiet and unbearably still without you, my sweet thing.

How do I abbreviate 14 years of love and friendship so expansive, so formative, so magical? I’ve been hesitating to even try to find the words, and somehow commit your memory to another box. I don’t want to contain it. I want it to continue to run as wild and far-reaching as you and I did, eternally.

But for the generous community of support, many of whom couldn’t know you personally but knew of you and knew how deeply I loved you. For the strangers in passing who smiled at the sight of you, because you spread joy just by being your sweet self. Chicken, you had a lot of fans.

I have been enchanted by you since day one, mesmerized every day by your silliness (comedic genius, always working on new material), sense of awe (seeking reverence without your heightened senses by my side pales in comparison), stubbornness and sense of justice (you were always right), your unwavering commitment to me (you are such a good boy. you are such a good boy.), and determination to live every day primally and spastically through pure joy (it’s so much more fun that way).

You were my charge, and there was never a sacrifice therein until now. I think you thought of me as your charge too and, Chicken, you did the best job. You shepherded me from barely 22 to just shy of 35, guiding me to discipline, to softness at every sharp edge, and to living through boundless love. Thank you for the gentlest goodbye I could’ve never planned. We said our earthly goodbye on Thursday, July 23rd, on a farm in Ellensburg, Washington, on soft clover grass and in a sunny, shady breeze.

The artery I grew when we found each other will keep pouring out everywhere I go without you. On every good stick, patch of grass, every car ride, in the mountains, on beaches, in creeks, waterfalls, trails, cozy spots, I’ll keep looking for you and reaching out for you. I know you’ll keep coming back to check on me. The Chicken check in. My reason, my shadow, my little spoon, my best friend, my creature son. Now you’re also my sunbeam. I love you. by @wizpurr

23 years of sisterhood and no decent group pics to prove it. But proof that I have the hottest friends. And truly so grateful to have this life long friendship 🩷

Also shout out to the cute 26 year old girl at the gay bar that couldn’t fathom we were old enough to be friends for as long as we have. taken in Galveston, Texas by @wizpurr
