🇺🇸 MEET THE TEAM! 💛🤎
Meet Tony LoBretto, a veteran with more than two decades of dedicated military service!
Tony’s impressive career spans both the U.S. Marine Corps and the Michigan Army National Guard, where he has served in a variety of roles and built a wealth of experience along the way.

Now, he brings that experience and passion for service to the WMU community, helping support the students who have also answered the call to serve.

We’re proud to have Tony on the team! 🇺🇸🐴

MEET THE TEAM! 💛🤎
Meet Brandy, one of the familiar faces helping make WMU a better place for students!

Brandy has been part of the WMU community as a student, parent, staff member, and alumna. She currently serves as an Administrative Assistant Senior and continues her education, pursuing a Master’s in Organizational Change Leadership, with plans to graduate in December 2027.

Her CliftonStrengths include Input, Connectedness, Relator, and Learner; which feels pretty fitting for someone whose work is all about supporting, connecting, and helping others grow.

Brandy says she didn’t want to simply support the work from the sidelines. She wanted to help improve it. We’re so glad she chose to be part of the team! 🐴✨

🇺🇸🎓 STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: MEET SCA PRESIDENT SHERRY!

My name is Sherry Thompson and I am a graduate student here at WMU. I am currently working towards my master's in Family and Consumer Science with a concentration on Youth and Community Development, my master's in Special Education with an endorsement in Emotional Impairment and completing my certification in Alcohol and Drug Abuse. As I approach my final year here at WMU I also will be presenting mine and Dr. Gullon-Rivera's research on coerced substance use, domestic violence, and its effects on youth education and families at the National Conference for Family Relations in Minneapolis, Minnesota in November.

However, with all that being said, I am also the daughter of a Vietnam and Korean war veteran as well as a sister to U.S. Army soldier who lost his life serving as well. My heart truly does belong to soldiers, and to create a unit here on WMU campus, is to create a place where all those who are military affiliated and support the military belong.

Each day, each month, with each breath you take, you are making a difference. It is my hope that as your president, I too can make a difference. My goal is to not only help build a strong unit where each of us belong, but also, help support one another, through lunch and learns, monthly updates of resources and those things which affect you as military-affiliated students but also create a time for us to come together for activities in which we can share a bit of ourselves and become stronger, supporting one another and be a unit here at Western Michigan University.

Sincerely,
Sherry Thompson
President Student Veterans of America
