The Beta Nu Chapter of Phi lota Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The Oldest Latino Fraternity in Existence

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

94 years of Brotherhood🦁

In 1898, the Unión Hispanoamericana was founded at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) as the FIRST recognized Hispanic student organization in the United States created to provide unity, cultural representation, and support for Hispanic and Latin American students at a time when none existed.

That historic mission did not disappear — it evolved. Through the development of Phi Lambda Alpha, and its 1931 merger with Phi Iota, those original values became institutionalized as Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc., established at RPI.

Because of this lineage, Phi Iota Alpha stands not only as the OLDEST Hispanic-founded fraternity, but as the direct continuation of the FIRST Hispanic student movement in U.S. higher education.

From the FIRST Hispanic organization to the OLDEST Hispanic fraternity — one mission, one culture, one Brotherhood.
