Introducing the @wobblehifi x @pluck.flowers 2627 home shirt. For fans of flowers, fernet, and football. Now available for pre-order via link in bio.

Why Pluck and Wobble? Well, we like to keep fresh Pluck flowers at the bar. And when Pluck comes in to replenish, we sometimes share a drink and ask the important questions, such as: what if we designed a soccer shirt and made it the Wobble staff uniform?

So we’re making the shirt; whether our staff wants to wear it is up to them. But we hope you’d like to join the club.

Making is an iterative process. We’ve always aimed to make Wobble feel like a thoughtfully-made space, and have learned it’s a living, ever-changing entity. Honed and shaped over time, responsive to our creative whims and the ways our community inhabits it. Our sound system has by far been the most iterative part of Wobble.

We started with a pair of Heresy Is behind the bar and a pair of Klipschorns as our main floor speakers. It didn’t provide quite the balance or listening experience we had hoped for, largely because the Klipschorns were annihilating the ears of anyone sitting close to them whenever we pushed them hard enough to fill the room.

So, we swapped the Klipschorns for a pair of Cornwalls, and flew them. That was a big improvement in terms of how evenly we could fill the room and gave the space a much better sense of texture. But we still felt like something was missing, and the physical constraints of the back bar had also put us in a bit of a bind in terms of what we could realistically put back there.

Eventually, we decided the answer was to just build our own.

These new speakers were designed specifically around the needs and constraints of the room and combine vintage and modern components: Iwata 300 horns, BMS 4594NDHE coaxial compression drivers, and Altec 416 woofers. An Altec N501-8A handles the crossover between the woofer and horn, while a BMS C8/8 handles the mid- and high-frequency sections of the coaxial driver.

The cabinets are our own custom ported design, tuned to 32 Hz and built from Baltic birch plywood, with double-thickness front baffles faced in maple-veneered plywood.

And because we believe in iteration, we couldn’t wait until they were completely finished to install them. So, for now, the horns are going in unpainted.

They’ll likely continue to evolve, change, and improve over time. That’s kind of the point. But for now, we couldn’t be more excited about where they’ve landed.
