Sziasztok 👋

Megérkezett a @balassa_wood × @woju.design közös kollekciójának második darabja #2 SODRÁSBAN.

HUF 170,000

Kövess be minket ha szívesen látnád a további közös munkáinkat. :)

Köszönjük a csodás képeket @dornokh 🔥 taken in Woodivity by @woju.design

Sziasztok! 👋

A sorozat első darabja, #1 SÉTA AZ ERDŐBEN.

Stay tuned. 👀

“Let’s never come here again because it would never be as much fun”

Lost in Translation (2003 - directed by Sofia Coppola) tells the story of two strangers who form an unexpected connection in Japan. The film focuses on themes of loneliness, cultural disorientation, and the beauty of fleeting human connections.

Bob Harris, an aging movie star, travels to Japan to film a commercial while feeling disconnected from his life and marriage. At the same time, Charlotte, a young woman accompanying her photographer husband, struggles with loneliness and uncertainty about her future.

Their connection grows gradually, built more on silence and presence than on words. The film suggests that true understanding often exists beyond language. The idea of “translation” becomes a metaphor for the difficulty of expressing one’s inner world. Even when people try to communicate, something essential is often lost. The city itself becomes a symbol of stimulation without real connection, full of noise but lacking intimacy. Their isolation is not only physical but deeply psychological and existential.

Together, they explore Tokyo, share quiet conversations, and find comfort in each other’s presence.

Their time together highlights the beauty of temporary but meaningful human connections. The film suggests that not all relationships are meant to last, yet they can still have a lasting impact. Both characters are in transitional phases, caught between who they were and who they are becoming. This “in-between” state creates both discomfort and openness to change. Through each other, they find a sense of clarity and emotional relief. Their connection helps them feel seen in a way they have been missing. In the end, the film reflects on the universal human desire to be understood, even if that understanding is only brief.

As a colour metaphor, blending pink and yellow creates red, symbolizing the unique emotional world they form together.

“Lost in translation” marquetry series

 [AVAILABLE/ ELÉRHETŐ]

Nr.6 L’espirit de l’escalier

(n.) A beautiful bittersweet phrase meaning “the wit of the staircase” it refers to that feeling you get when you leave a conversation and think of all the things you should have said.

The concept was first described by the 18th-century French philosopher Denis Diderot. It refers to that moment when you’ve already left a conversation—almost as if you’re walking down the stairs—and suddenly think of the perfect, witty, or clever response you should have said… but it’s too late.

It’s a bittersweet feeling because it’s: satisfying (you finally think of the perfect line), frustrating (you missed your chance) & slightly melancholic (the timing is gone).

But don’t worry — it happens to all of us, and sometimes there’s a quiet acceptance in realizing that even if you didn’t say everything — or didn’t even say goodbye — what happened in that moment was enough.

“The owls are not what they seem”

[SOLD]
Size: 600x400
Material: Smoked Oak, Paduk, Walnut burl, Maple, Ebony, Smoked Eucalyptus
WH: 70h

Twin Peaks is a mystery drama created by David Lynch and Mark Frost about the investigation of Laura Palmer’s murder. Dale Cooper arrives to solve the crime, uncovering secrets hidden beneath the town’s seemingly wholesome surface. As the story unfolds, the narrative expands beyond a murder mystery into a surreal exploration of dreams, duality, and the nature of evil. Supernatural elements blend with soap-opera melodrama and dark humor. Ultimately, the series examines the darkness that exists both within individuals and beneath the facade of ordinary American life.

Symbols
Dale Cooper
As an FBI agent, he represents rational investigation, yet he fully embraces dreams and symbolism as tools for understanding truth. Cooper acts as a bridge between the ordinary world and the supernatural forces surrounding Twin Peaks. True investigation is internal: the struggle between light and darkness unfolding within him.

Red Room
In Twin Peaks, the Red Room represents the subconscious, dreams, and the space between realities. The red curtains suggest secrecy and hidden truths, like a theatrical veil concealing deeper layers of meaning. The black-and-white zigzag floor symbolizes duality—good and evil, reality and illusion—core themes throughout the series. It is a liminal space where time is distorted and characters confront their shadow selves.

Owl Cave Symbol
It represents a portal or map connected to powerful interdimensional forces, particularly the Lodges. The symbol suggests that the town sits atop a convergence point of supernatural energies. It reinforces the idea that hidden knowledge must be deciphered rather than directly explained.

Reversed Owl Cave
The reversed version of the Owl Cave symbol mirrors the show’s theme of duality. Just as the Lodges represent opposing spiritual forces (often interpreted as Black Lodge and White Lodge), the inverted symbol suggests a distorted or shadow reality. It reflects how good and evil are intertwined rather than separate. In Twin Peaks, nothing exists without its opposite.

ULTRA VIOLANCE - Marquetry Art

Size: 360x490

Material: Ebony, Maple

Created upon special request, based on Clockwork Orange (1962 dystopian novel by Anthony Burgess and its famous 1971 film adaptation by Stanley Kubrick). A Clockwork Orange explores the conflict between free will, morality, and state control, questioning if removing the choice to do evil removes humanity itself.

Symbols:

White drops from the eye /background

Milk, traditionally a symbol of innocence and nourishment, is subverted in Clockwork Orange to represent the corruption of youth and the perversion of natural instincts. Alex and his “droogs” gather at the Korova Milk Bar that dispense drug-laced milk (moloko plus). The white, pure substance is tainted with hallucinogens and stimulants (“vellocet,” “synthemesc,” or “drencrom”) to prime them for a night of “ULTRAVIOLANCE”. The drug-spiked milk symbolizes how a society’s attempts to “cure” Alex ultimately poison his free will, reflecting a broader moral decay where even symbols of wholesomeness are corrupted.

Orange color & figures:

The title is essentially an oxymoron that combines the organic (life, juice, sweetness) with the mechanical (cold, disciplined, programmed). It signifies a living being (the orange) subjected to mechanistic control (clockwork), like Alex being conditioned to be incapable of violence, thereby losing his humanity and free will. The iconic scene is before Alex is captured and he still has natural vitality (even if its evil) hence the orange color.

DerbyHat:

Alex’s iconic black derby hat and general attire serve as a metaphor or identity, performance, and a veneer of “civility” masking brutality. Alex and his droogs wear matching outfits, including white jumpsuits and black derby hats, which act as a uniform or a costume for their “performances” of violence. The uniform look creates a facade of order, even as they commit chaotic and savage acts. The hat adds a touch of a style to Alex’s otherwise brutal persona, emphasizing his love for high art (Beethoven) and base violence within the same character.

Nr. 5 In-Yun

(n.) providence, fate, or a meaningful connection between people

In-Yun (인연) is a beautiful Korean word, which suggests that every encounter, especially a significant one, is not accidental but the result of countless interactions and connections across past lives. The depth of the relationship depends on the “layers” of In-Yun. An old saying in Korean culture states that if two strangers accidentally brush clothes in the street, it is a minor In-Yun from a past life. If two people marry, it is because they have shared 8,000 layers of In-Yun over 8,000 lifetimes.

While often used in the context of romantic love, In-Yun applies to any meaningful human relationship, including friendships, family, or even a chance meeting with a stranger who changes your path.

Essentially, it is the beautiful idea that the people who come into your life were meant to, for a reason, and that you are not walking alone through life’s journey.

Size: 280 x 330
Material: 15! : Smoked Eucalyptus, Smoked Oak, European Beech, African Walnut, African Sapele, Canadian Maple, Linden (Basswood), Thai Teak, Ebony, American White Ash, American Cherry, American Walnut, European Walnut, Rosewood, Birdseye Maple

Nr. 4 Morii

(n.) the bittersweet desire to capture a fleeting moment or experience in time, to make it last longer

Morii is a coined word from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows (https://www.thedictionaryofobscuresorrows.com), meaning the bittersweet desire to capture a fleeting moment, like trying to freeze time or preserve a perfect experience in a photograph before it vanishes.
It's that deep instinct to hold onto beauty, a perfect sunset, or laughter, knowing it's temporary, and convert it into something lasting, like a memory or image.
From „memento mori, a latin word, small reminder of your mortality and „torii”, traditional Japanese gates that mark the threshold between the profane and the sacred.
Pronounced “moh-ree.”

Size: 320x550
Material: walnut, maple, cherry, linden

Nr. 4 Morii

Nr. 3 Toska

(n.) a deep, aching longing of the soul, an untranslatable sorrow that lingers between nostalgia and unfulfilled yearning.

“Toska” (pronounced tahs-kah) is a Russian word that describes a complex, deep, and often untranslatable emotion of profound spiritual anguish, melancholic longing, and a deep ache of the soul. A longing that has no object, but only depth. Some describe it as an awareness of the “empty, nihilistic, screaming void” of the universe, coupled with the sharp intensity of being human. For some Russians, toska is considered an integral part of the national identity, linked to a complicated history of suffering and a gloomy climate but It can manifest as a general sense of unease, boredom, or dissatisfaction with life as it is.

Nr. 3 Toska

Nr. 2 Fernweh

(n.) longing or homesickness for far off places and unknown lands

Fernweh is a German word that translates literally to “far-pain” or “far-sickness”. It is defined as a deep longing or homesickness for far-off places and unknown lands, essentially the opposite of homesickness (Heimweh). More than just a general desire to travel (wanderlust), Fernweh is an ache or pain that urges you to get away from your familiar surroundings and explore the unknown. This feeling can be an intense craving to experience new landscapes, cultures, and ways of life, sometimes for places you have never even been to in reality, such as fictional worlds like Middle Earth.

For me, it is a desire to explore new worlds within our galaxy. A wormhole is a theoretical shortcut through spacetime, a tunnel connecting two distant points, predicted by Einstein’s theory of relativity but unproven to exist.

Nr. 2 Fernweh
