As a european, i look at what's happening in America while not being directly impacted by it. But as a human, i look at it and see the spanish inquisition, i see fascism and nazism, i see the ayatollah. Many fellow europeans look at this thinking we are safe from our distance, but in reality, no one is safe until everyone is. What is happening in America could be our own future, and we cannot afford to care only when it's impacting us directly. The scary patriot nationalist brainwashed rethoric accompained by a corrupt version of faith, it is already present in our continent and is thriving. We can't let our rights, our democracy being snuffed away by an authoritarian regime, the world is an organism and if an organ is sick, the whole body will eventually turn to a corpse, if left unhealed. I believe in a future in which there are no regimes, no one party governments, no oligarchies, no teocracies, only democracy, the only way for people to determine their future. But this is not enough, we all need to keep in check the mechanisms of democracy if we want to keep it healthy and not turn into this. Have we not learned from history at all? Is it all meant to happen again? Because i think not. I think we had enough of this to know we don't deserve it. We need experts, not bigots, not charlatans and criminals, we need experts and we need to never trust them. They don't love us, they don't have our interests in mind, but we need to remind them that theirs is not a vacation, but a job. We need to remind them we are the ones who can fire them and they are at our service, not the contrary. Freedom is not a milestone, it isn't a ultimate stop. It is dynamic and needs to be preserved. And honestly, i think we aren't doing a great job at that, expecially in some places in particular in which expressing thoughts that don't align with the leader results in consequences. Places in which it is your faith or lack there of, your identity and your skin color that determines if you get to be treated as a human or not. I hope future will be kinder to all of you, and to all of us as well. by @wolfoxcat_x3
