On July 24 in 1964, the last leg of the Sunshine State Parkway (aka Florida's Turnpike) was completed, connecting Miami to Orlando via the toll road. This was a costly project that never seemed to end, with constant construction still happening somewhere along the Turnpike today. In 1961, as the Sunshine State Parkway was expanding, Florida's Governor Farris Bryant needed funds to finance the Orlando extension, so he approved negotiations for a bond issue to raise money for the project, as he describes in this WTVJ news footage.#SouthFLArchives #floridasturnpike #WTVJnews #tollroad #sunshinestateparkway by @wolfsonarchives
