My tool wall in its current state. It keeps changing and improving over time, but, always good to take pictures once in a while to remind yourself on how things have changed.

Well…it’s good to know I stay calm under pressure 😂
But the tool changer spitting out the collet at the end just sent me. Haha.

Total user error. I should’ve checked the length of my tools before a bit change. It definitely snapped the bit in two pieces. These machines are robust af. And in the grand scheme of things, a cheap and harmless lesson.

Laser carving pencil lead.

I’ve always wondered if it was possible to carve pencil lead with a laser. And if so, how good are the details? I was pleasantly surprised with the results using @laserpecker LP5. It has dual laser (20W diode + 20W fiber) that allows you to engrave any surface—wood, metal, leather, plastics, and apparently pencil lead. It’s portable and can be run with a simple and easy app from your phone or desktop software like lightburn.

Use coupon code SUMAN50 for discount on your next LP5.

I’ve been wearing this Strauss Winter Jacket E. S. Trail outside the shop pretty much every day because it’s a perfect all-arounder for jobsites or around the house—it repels wind, snow, and rain while still keeping you warm and dry. @strauss_america by @woodcraftbysuman

How does this work?

This is iron acetate—made by soaking steel wool in vinegar. When brushed onto wood with high tannin content (like oak, walnut, or cherry), it reacts naturally with the tannins to darken the wood from within. It’s a simple, DIY alternative to commercial stains, and the result is deeper, more vibrant, and feels more natural than pigment-based stains. No dyes—just chemistry doing the work.
