Picked up this New Rogers scroll saw circa 1880s, did a light restoration some disassembly for cleaning and lubrication, made a new top clamp, new belt, touch up and polishing etc etc. last photo is when I first picked it up. Please swipe to see photos and video. What a cool little machine, so much fun. #scrollsaw #antiquemachinery by @woodsmith_steve

I never paint wood carvings but on this piece I felt compelled. I use oils very muted and lightly bodied, very opaque and translucent. only about 50% is painted the rest is shading. The end goal was to make sure that it is a Woodcarving and not plastic. Please swipe to see the carving before paint.#woodcarving #relief #reliefcarving #basswood #woodcarvingart by @woodsmith_steve

Finally crossed the finish line (pun intended) now onto the finish #woodcarving #woodcarvingart #basswood #woodcarvingskills by @woodsmith_steve

Progress on this Basswood relief has been slow going but the finish line is in sight. #woodcarving #woodcarvingart #basswood #woodworking #woodworkingskills by @woodsmith_steve

So we were in need of a new coffee table sure I could have made one, but with too many projects already… we found this on line it is solid rubber wood throughout ( except for the drawer bottoms) really good construction, tight joints, the drawers have full extension slides. It’s manufactured in Vietnam, not technically flat packed it was fully assembled except for bolting on the legs and dropping in the bottom shelf. It’s raw without any finish. The photos show with the finish complete. For $269.00 I couldn’t go wrong, it would have cost me more for the wood to make it myself. No bullshit MDF WITH fake veneer and bad joinery. HOORAY FOR VIETNAM 👏👏👏forgot to mention, get one before the furniture tariffs kick in! by @woodsmith_steve

An update on progress on this very detailed basswood relief carving, if anyone is interested. #woodworking #woodworkingskills #woodcarving #woodcarvingart #basswood #woodcarvingskills #reliefwoodcarving #animalcarving #wildlifecarving by @woodsmith_steve

Establishing some ground work on this Basswood relief, if you notice some curly figure around where I’m carving this is a strange piece of basswood it hade curly, hard areas and soft punky areas throughout the piece, very challenging to say the least. I was never a fan of basswood. #woodcarving #woodcarvingart #woodcarvingskills #woodcarvingartist #basswood #basswoodcarving #reliefcarving #woodworking by @woodsmith_steve

Between the drill press with a forstner bit and this roto zip by @ BOSCH I can make quick work of removing waste from this relief carving. Just a few minutes saves me hours of work instead of using v tools and gouges. #@BOSCH #woodcarving #woodcarvingart #woodcarvings #reliefcarving #basswood #woodworking #rotozip by @woodsmith_steve
