Narcissistic enough to think people should care what I think.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Probably from the age of 23/24 I think I have started to get more of a handle on what sort of person I wanted to be, rather than the person I was expected to be. I want to roll down hills, and run through the woods, and dance and twirl without caring who’s watching.

I started drinking less on nights out (most of the time) aiming to just drink water once I got to a club so if I was under the influence, I was just tipsy. I started to flail when I danced and sing like I would if I were frontman for a band (not the quality, but the passion). I went outside more, I wrote more, I started to appreciate the little things, and then the dancing followed me outside, and I twirled around, staring up into the trees, and running and rolling down hills.

The best thing about doing all this has been people reactions, strangers dancing with me, hikers grinning as I tear past them like a little gremlin excited for adventure, meeting more and more people who I love and who love me.

I guess a lot of people try to hide stuff about themselves as kids to fit in, you are scared of friends judging you, and your world is so small that if they don’t like you, it all crashes down. Then suddenly you leave your hometown, you are forced onto social media to find likeminded people, and discover they are all out there. I have friends who will run into the rain with me, who will wrap their arms around me, who come to all sorts of fantasy worlds around a table of cards. An eclectic range of parts of my personality. 8 billion people in the world, I promise you you’ll find a handful for yourself if you are given the opportunity to look.

I discovered a new band today, isn't that exciting! Very much my thing, the sort of music I'll use as a soundtrack to my ramblings along hills and through valleys. Think if I invite them as a collaborator they'll see people in Devon like that music and come tour? Is that weird? Is it rude? I mean aren't all the musicians I use collaborators, this reel would suck without their music helping lift my monotonous voice. Either way thanks @tophousetheband for making lovely music.

Is there anyone who'd like to start writing but isn't sure where to start? Because it seems most writers I know write, but if there is anyone out there who's a bit unsure, this is my recommendation.

Something I've really enjoyed while traveling around has been all of the rainforests I've been to, the moss strung trees and variety of them, ones with vine-like trunks that come down from branches, others where their roots are raised from the ground and blanketed in bark, almost resembling a collar bone.

I had the absolute privilege to work with @tom_swanser again on a poetry video. I must admit I preferred doing this one. I’m not sure who the character I imitated was, but it was fun to slap a moustache on my face and film some old-styley clips, inspired by a group of people including myself and Tom watching Casablanca. The final still amused me because it looks like I’m angry at a nut. by @wordsforwalking

WE ARE GETTING THERE PEOPLE!

I know it's about to get turn grey again but this sun is a sign that summer will come! That and the fact it does every year. Not that I would be fool enough to take for granted that we will see a summer of heat and swims and walks, but I hope. by @wordsforwalking

I was out on Dartmoor the other weekend and got absolutely soaked. The sky originally looked pretty clear, bright blues and white clouds, so you can imagine the orange I was hoping for at sunset, but as we got closer the clouds rolled in. Mist engulfed us and the wind threatened to sweep us from our feet as we walked. In the fading light I laughed like a child at the horizontal rain, and uselessness of my thermos in the cold. It was wonderful.

I had such good fun making this with @tom_swanser. It’s really weird being in front of a camera like this, because you think about it more than when it’s just you recording yourself. I think the poem needs a little work, in the delivery and the words themselves. Hearing it back, I realise I need to emphasise the intended rhymes and work on the syllable count, but even with those issues, it’s awesome how the video turned out.

As you’d expect from a pro, Tom knows how to get the right lighting, how to hide the mic, and what shots will work where. More than that though, to have someone invest in your work as he did was just awesome. I’m very grateful for the time and effort he put into this, and can’t wait to make another!

Shout out to @foulkseya for ideas and lighting assistance, and for somehow managing to keep a straight face holding a light above my head as I try to seriously read a poem.

I think the new year is always a good time to reflect, but for the first time in a while I'm not setting goals. I don't need a book published by the end of the year, I'd rather take my time. I am fully aware of the privilege of that but yeah, I'm ready to just keep romanticising all the little things. Those drives to work when the sun breaks, those icy winter mornings, because I guess I can't stop the car freezing, but I can think it looks pretty. Anyway, thinking about that made me think of this poem I wrote this year or last, I can't remember.

I'm so grateful for all the factors in my life that have allowed me to rest this week. I definitely still feel a sense of guilt for what I'm able to enjoy, but this year I've realised it hasn't stopped me enjoying those things. Big love everyone! by @wordsforwalking

I love a blustery walk in the winter. That said I'm glad we've made it - the days are going to be longer now, summer is coming!

One of the best things about starting to write poetry is the people I've met. Filming with @tom_swanser was a dream. It felt strange acting but being able to do it with people that make you feel comfortable makes it a lot easier. So much love for the creatives of this world in general but I can't thank Tom enough and am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. by @wordsforwalking
