Thinking about
Motherhood
Me and my youngest brother in 2019
I was 16 and he was just born
I took care of him by myself until he was 5
It was only the 3 of us under this roof,
me and my 2 little brothers
Nobody told me I would be a mother so young
Nothing could have prepared me for what becoming a mother would ask of me
I was a child myself
I still had so much to ask
She imagined love would be taught to her by her mother’s hands or by a book she loved enough to believe in
Instead a soul half her weight being placed into hands that were barely strong enough to lift it
And that was the most otherworldly way to ever be introduced to love
This is
What shaped me
And I accept it

My heart is with all the young mothers out there :) by @wordsremainforever

A mother writing to a daughter she cannot reach. A daughter reading those letters in a language her mother did not speak. Palestinian women in exile. Fragile creatures using the most fragile tools to measure absence, and to outlast it.

Words are a thin membrane between connection and loss, the cheapest instrument available to those who have lost everything else. To understand how something so fragile can hold so much is to understand how fragility itself might be a form of resilience. Perhaps words resemble body in this way, perishable yet stubborn in their persistence. When everything else is taken, the body remains. When the body is gone, words remain.
