You can’t have an iconic “movie moments with music” series without Saturday Night Fever. This time I’ve swapped @johntravolta for an American Coot (because there ain’t no party like a coot party cause a coot party won’t stop).

Choreographers Lester Wilson (who later choreographed The Wiz), Deney Terrio, and JoJo Smith helped get Travolta camera-ready for the film. The dance floor, which cost the production team $15,000 to install, was auctioned off in 2017 and sold for $1.2 million to an anonymous buyer.

After I finished the Pulp Fiction piece (see Nov 8 post), I decided you can never have too many meerkats and swapped out Channing Tatum, Adam Rodriguez, and Matt Bomer for these small, adorable mongooses in the “It’s Raining Men” number from the movie Magic Mike.

Alison Faulk was the lead choreographer for the film, working with Luke Broadlick and her team to get the cast performance ready. Unfortunately the version of “It’s Raining Men” that was used in the film is not available on IG, but the artist’s name is Countre Black.

Our final “movie scene with music moment” from my trivia data at Mac Market is the “Jump in the Line (Shake, Shake Señora)” scene from “Beetlejuice.” The number features a young Winona Ryder (played by a black-footed ferret in my illustration) floating near her family’s staircase while a ghost team of football players dance on the stairs while the music of Harry Belafonte plays (for the second time in the film).

The movie was directed by Tim Burton and after much anticipation, finally got a sequel earlier in 2024.

Fun fact: “Beetlejuice” was the first movie sent out on DVD by Netflix in 1998.

Stop by the Enchanted Lemonade Stand in front of the Mack Theater (510 NE 3rd Street), run by my friend Charlotte, this Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. She will have delicious lemonade as well as some pretty adorable fairy potions available for purchase.

The stand is part of McMinnville’s Lemonade Days, which helps today’s youth become the business leaders, social advocates, community volunteers and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow.

I’m so proud of her for coming up with the idea, building and decorating the stand (with some help from her parents @kknapp.tastes and @foxcarpentry), and she even pitched the idea to the event organizers and was selected one of the “2025 BEST OF THE ZEST” winners.

I created this poster to help her promote her stand and she will have copies of a free Enchanted Lemonade Stand coloring sheet I put together for visitors to take home, so make sure to show your support this weekend!

Many thanks to Emily H. and the Yachats Public Library for asking me to be a part of their children’s summer program yesterday!

I spoke with kids ages 3-12 about my work as an illustrator, got to share two new free coloring pages, and share how my love of drawing as a kid turned into a career. As someone who has loved libraries my whole life, it was such a fun way to spend my morning.

Happy Grand Opening Day to my friends @mactoollibrary! To celebrate and get ready for Mother’s Day, they are hosting a 30 min drop in workshop today Saturday, May 10 from 10 am to 2 pm where you can build and decorate a planter box and fill it with soil and plants immediately thanks to @recology and @edibleyamhill.

The Mac Tool Library is located at 1040 NE Alpine Ave. and they have two sizes of planter boxes available: $30 for a small box and $35 for a medium box. In addition to all of the materials and the planter box, each participant will receive kid gloves and a trowel to take home.

They will also have free copies of the coloring and activity sheet I created for the MTL that has fun facts on how to identify some popular Yamhill County birds.

Today is the day - the first McMinnville Farmers Market of the 2025 season! Make sure to stop by the @mcminnvillefarmersmarket booth to pick up a free copy of the coloring sheet I created for them based off this year’s poster.
