The West Haven Police K-9 Unit would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Ricky, owner of Working Dog Wood, for his generous donation of a beautifully crafted wooden plaque honoring our police K-9 teams.

The plaque is a true reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and partnership shared between our handlers and K-9s. Ricky's craftsmanship and attention to detail have created a lasting tribute that will be proudly displayed for years to come.

We are incredibly fortunate to have individuals like Ricky who support law enforcement and recognize the hard work and sacrifices made by our K-9 teams. Thank you for your generosity, your talent, and for helping us celebrate the incredible dogs that serve alongside us every day.

Megan Leavey is a U.S. Marine Corps corporal who served as a military police K9 handler. She was paired with Rex, a military working dog trained to help detect explosives. Together, they completed more than 100 missions and served two deployments in Iraq, where their work helped protect troops and save lives.

In 2006, while on patrol in Ramadi, Megan and Rex were both wounded by an improvised explosive device. Their story later became widely known because of Megan’s fight to be reunited with Rex after his service ended, and it inspired the 2017 film Megan Leavey.

We don’t just capture images of working dogs; we also cherish beautiful memories like this—a heartfelt moment between a father and son, @jay_pk9, celebrating their new beginning together. Once again, thank you, congratulations on your boy, and many blessings for you and your family. taken in New York, N.Y. by @workingdogwood
