Raised in Kahaluʻu, Oʻahu, TAUA (@1eiataua) is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and creative whose influences range from R&B and island reggae to hip-hop and EDM. He is currently enrolled in the MELE program (@melehcc) at Honolulu Community College and serves as manager and bassist for STEVN KOU (@stevnkou).

About a year ago I created THE R&B BACKSPIN - quick, educational “shallow dives” into R&B artists who helped shape the sound we love today. It’s been a fun process: putting people onto music they may have missed and connecting the dots between generations of R&B.

Now it’s time to take that idea a step further.

Introducing THE R&B BACKSPIN LIVE—a new series where I blend some of my favorite classic R&B records with newer sounds in a live DJ mix, continuing that bridge between past and present.

This first installment was filmed live @workroomhnl in Oʻahu, Hawai‘i. While brainstorming with @_wooozy how to present it, we landed on the idea of channeling old-school karaoke videos—those nostalgic, slightly cheesy visuals I remember from family parties. To make it more personal, I layered in footage from our trip to Hawai‘i, giving the mix a more intimate feel.

Huge thank you to Woozy for helping bring the vision to life, and to @djrevise and @tittahbyte at Workroom Honolulu for providing the space.
