Here’s a sneak peek into our early days at Worldish.

Together with the fantastic team of emergency care at @region_ostergotland_officiell , Linköping University Hospital (US), and Utveckling och Innovation, we were able to shadow and understand how emergency care physicians and nurses work under pressure.šŸ„

Amazing staff like Dr. Daniel Wilhelms, Dr. Gitte Swaminathan, Dr. Sofia Freland, Dr. Elin Storm, Dr. Shiraz Qadar, and Dr. Matthias Jörg, along with many others from this fantastic team who are truly driven to improve healthcare with technology, contributed to the initial development of Helen Assistant.ā¤ļø

That’s why Helen is a product that is loved by healthcare professionals — because it has been developed together with healthcare, by listening to the needs of healthcare professionals.

This photo shows one of our founders, Naveen Sasidharan, together with Dr. Daniel Wilhelms, where Dr. Daniel is explaining to @sasidharannaveen and @abhishek the reality of patients in emergency care settings: how healthcare professionals have to make decisive actions in a very short time and under immense pressure, and how language barriers could hinder patient safety and quality of care in such situations.

All these insights and feedback have gone into the development of Helen Assistant, making it a cutting-edge AI medical technology with the highest medical accuracy in comparison to general translation tools. Helen is designed to work in high-pressure situations such as emergency care, helping doctors and nurses communicate complex medical dialogues with precision.

Thanks to the fantastic team at Linköping University Hospital (US), @region_ostergotland_officiell , Regional utveckling - Region Östergötland and Utveckling och Innovation, Magnus Stridsman and Jan Fahlgren for a wonderful collaboration that fueled the journey of Worldish and Helen Assistant.

As founders of Worldish, we always think about what patients need when they are in a country where they do not speak the local language.

You need your privacy to be respected and a tool that empowers you to communicate with your doctor or nurse. You want to feel respected and equal. Above all, you want to understand, without any doubt, what treatment plan has been discussed with you.

You need to understand the information shared by your doctor or nurse so you can follow the treatment plan correctly. Any dilution in these key aspects can significantly affect the quality of care and, ultimately, patient safety.

At Worldish, we have interviewed several hundred people, especially people living in Sweden who do not speak Swedish, and heard from patients in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland and the U.S. about their concerns when meeting healthcare professionals.

In Helen Assistant, we have taken these concerns into account.

Even with an interpreter, you may still wonder whether everything was communicated correctly. Interpretation can involve subjective errors, and not every interpretation is necessarily 100% accurate.

So, how about having an additional layer of support?

Helen Assistant is medically trained and can be used together with an interpreter, giving patients and doctors an additional way to make sure everything has been communicated correctly.

Helen Assistant is not here to replace interpreters.

It is here to empower interpreters and support them in doing their jobs even better.

Healthcare is different. You need accurate, data-secure, certified, medical-grade translation.

That is what Helen Assistant is built for.

Help us raise awareness about language barriers in healthcare and how unequal it can feel to be a patient who cannot speak the local language.

Let’s change healthcare for the better — where care is equal for everyone, irrespective of which language they speak.

Helen Assistant, together with medically certified interpreters.

It’s hard to assume that patients have a good level of medical literacy. Many patients do not understand the medical jargon used by doctors and nurses. šŸ„

Medical information can be complex, making it difficult for the average patient to fully understand what is happening throughout their treatment journey and how they need to follow the treatment procedures and instructions given by healthcare staff.

With Helen, we help facilitate better shared understanding between healthcare staff and patients by enabling communication not only through AI voice-to-voice translation and interpretation, but also through medically verified animations. šŸ¤

šŸŽ„ These animations help healthcare staff clearly communicate complicated medical instructions, procedures, and treatment plans to patients in a way that is easier to understand.

Here, you can see an example from a maternity care setting, where procedures such as CTG and lactate sampling are clearly communicated to patients with the aid of medically verified animations. šŸ‘©ā€šŸ¼

These animations have been developed in-house by the Worldish team and approved by our customer clinics and internal medical team, meaning they are certified for use in healthcare communication. āœ…

So, Helen is not just an AI voice-to-voice interpreter.

It also integrates the ability to communicate through animations, further improving shared understanding between healthcare staff and patients. šŸ’™

Facing language barriers, it's always difficult, especially in drop-in and emergency care situations. šŸ„

Standard health declaration questions about allergies, previous medical history, and such can be time-consuming when a language barrier is in place.

And now, we don't have to worry about that with Helen's new Patient App.

Patients can scan a QR code while waiting in the waiting rooms of a primary care clinic, emergency care, or any drop-in clinic. They can fill in information about their medical background, history, and anamnesis in their own language before meeting the doctor.

Doctors receive a summary on their Helen tablets, summarized in their own language. This helps doctors and nurses review the information before meeting the patient.

So, time is saved, the quality of the care process is improved, and patient safety is enhanced. Clinicians can also save valuable consultation time, even when language barriers are involved, with Helen.

A simple step before the consultation that can make a real difference when care begins. šŸ’™

Everyone talks about the challenges facing healthcare today and how digitalization and AI could be the answer. But at Worldish, we have realized that technology brought into healthcare must be validated in real-life healthcare environments. šŸ„

That is why, with Helen Assistant, we have continuously collected and validated feedback directly from healthcare staff throughout the development process. The innovation was developed together with healthcare, including Region Östergötland, Linköping University Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and Västra Götalandsregionen. šŸ¤

Healthcare staff told us about the challenges with existing solutions for language barriers, including interpreter quality and the lack of feedback mechanisms to ensure that information has been communicated correctly.

At the same time, they told us that general AI tools could be unreliable and create risks to patient safety. What they wanted was a solution where qualified human interpreters with medical competence could work hand-in-hand with a medically trained and medically validated AI interpretation solution.

That is the answer we brought to them with Helen AssistantĀ®, and they have welcomed it with open arms. šŸ¤–šŸ¤šŸ§‘ā€āš•ļø

Our journey has taught us one important lesson: talk to your end users early. By listening to healthcare staff, nurses, doctors, and support staff, we can develop solutions that truly work where they are needed most. šŸŒšŸ’™

šŸ„ We had a wonderful onboarding session last week with a new hospital joining our customer family.

These are clicks where our team member is explaining to the staff group how Helen can be used in their day-to-day work life, where they meet and serve patients who have language barriers.

The staff groups were amazingly impressed by Helen's capabilities, especially given that they have been subject to conditions where not enough qualified medical interpreters have been available to support them in their consultations, and have been using uncertified apps before.

The hospital management has taken a bold step to implement Helen Assistant, a proven, medically trained, medical-grade product, and facilitate increased patient safety and equal care for patient communities. šŸ©ŗšŸ¤

Reducing inequalities in healthcare and facilitating better communication between healthcare staff and patients is our mission. And in that sense, this day was a true success and accomplishment of our dream. ā¤ļø

šŸŒ Language barriers in healthcare is a global problem, and we are well set to eradicate this problem once and for all with our product, Helen Assistant.

Even with medical interpreters, Helen can be used, and qualified medical interpreters can seek support from Helen to translate medical jargon and complicated medical terms accurately and in simpler terms. Helen's abilities are truly amazing. ✨

It not only empowers doctors, nurses, and patients, but also medical interpreters to do their job even better.

Helen Assistant is not a replacement for human interpreters, but it is an empowerment tool for interpreters to do their job better with higher medical accuracy. šŸ‘©ā€āš•ļøšŸ‘Øā€āš•ļøšŸ¤

šŸŒ We have had a wonderful onboarding session at UMC Sint-Pieter - CHU Saint-Pierre, covering 42 different clinical departments and specialties.

The energy and ambience among the staff groups were amazing and extremely positive. Everyone was highly enthusiastic about adopting Helen Assistant, a proven, cutting-edge AI medical interpretation technology, to help solve language barriers in their day-to-day work.

šŸ™ A heartfelt thank you to the CHU Saint-Pierre management, and especially Philippe Vandenbergh, for your amazing support throughout the one-year pilot process we have had.

The collection of evidence related to improvements in quality of care and clinical safety was important to you and the management. This is a true role model for implementing a healthcare innovation that can improve the lives of both healthcare staff and patients.

A big thank you as well to Caroline De Voecht, Evelyn Vass, Léo Foucher, and the rest of the CHU Saint-Pierre management for the trust you have placed in us. šŸ¤

We look forward to continuing this amazing journey together and facilitating more and more options for you to deliver equal care in the context of language barriers in Brussels, the heart of Europe. šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗ

A nurse asks a question. The interpreter translates it. But did the patient hear what was actually meant? The patient and interpreter are right now having a back-and-forth discussion. It also sounds like an argument between them. The nurse wonders if what was interpreted is exactly what he or she meantšŸ¤”

Language barriers are one of the BIGGEST challenges in global healthcare šŸŒ

And even when interpreters are available, there's a hidden problem:

āŒ Medical jargon gets lost in translation
āŒ No way to review if the message was delivered correctly
āŒ Staff simply have to trust that it was

That's the problem we set out to solve at Worldish šŸ’™

With Helen AI Assistant, healthcare staff can now communicate with patients in their own language — using quality-assured medical content.

āœ… Staff see exactly what's being communicated
āœ… No guesswork, no blind trust
āœ… Safer care, better quality
āœ… Patients who actually understand their treatment

We'd love your input as we keep improving Helen! šŸ™Œ
