Runners on second and third with one out at the World Kickball Classic.
This scenario came down to pure kickball IQ and knowing the rulebook inside and out. In the World Kickball Classic, walking a male kicker before a female kicker only awards one base, not two. Because of that specific rule, I intentionally walked the batter to load the bases and set up the matchup with the kicker behind him.
The strategy paid off immediately. I got the next kicker to pop out softly in the infield, freezing the runners and preventing anyone from tagging up. With two outs, I went after the next batter and induced a deep fly ball that our defense easily tracked down to secure the final out.
Instead of letting them drive in two runs, understanding the tournament rules and manipulating the matchups helped us walk away giving up zero. High IQ kickball wins games.
