To compete or not to compete. I decided not to, since I knew there was no chance for finals anyway and I was too scared of showing up at that moment. So I decided to make sure I make something out of it I feel more comfortable with: documenting the ones competing. While it felt a bit like hiding behind the camera, it also felt relieving to allow myself not to feel ready. Although I agree with @slops__ , with whom I shared a nice chat about it afterwards, that you never „feel like it“. The more you expose yourself to performances, the more you get used to it. So no chickening out next time.

So I took another challenge: making this post. I usually don’t shoot in burst mode, since it feels like cheating. I’d rather catch the perfect moment like with a film camera than spray and pray. But the movements were so quick that I gave it a shot. While scrolling through the pictures, I discovered that the pray worked and beautiful stop-motion animations had been created. So I tried to make a mixture of the spotlight exposure the people encountered and their actual movement within it.

The goal was to eliminate as much noise from the spectators and surroundings as possible and show the brutal exposure performers experience while they are on stage.

A few random snapshots from this year’s Herräng. Thank you for all the dances, the laughs and beautiful moments that made it so special again. 🌿

It’s always weird to come home and trying to tell people how it was. These images and the following quotes, memories & realizsations are a humble try to express the feelings.

💫 Dancing is a language itself on which we are all on our journey to become more fluent in.

💫 The whole dance is a shared experience between two individuals connected by the music. No one ‚owns‘ the dance to share more or less with the other. @felixberghall & @ursulahicks

💫 One can talk a lot while not saying much with its dance. Thanks @erolakinci for showing how to talk less and say more.

I haven’t posted much lately. 55 hours in trains give you some time to edit and actually present some work. Idk, I always end up not post mostly cause I don’t think it’s good enough or the next shoot will be much better or whatsoever excuse I find. Maybe I’ll find time to present more of my work here. Maybe not. Let’s see and be real. Insta shows only the highs. Most of the time is spent behind screens and work which might be just part of life. So let’s celebrate the highs while embracing the lows and enjoy everything in between. taken in Canarian Islands by @worldofdave

@meganclaire_h and I quite randomly stumbled into the strictly final @swing_n_milan this weekend. After a mediocre first heat I am very happy with this run even though I completely missed the exit - adrenaline was hitting hard and the band kept pushing, so well… we kept dancing. :D
Thanks for all the cheering of our friends and other amazing people. It was a blast to leave the comfort zone once more on a different level. 🔥 taken in The Spirit Milano by @worldofdave

one of the things I will miss the most are the people I am dancing with. Thank you @worldofdave for all the dances and work we shared so far and thank you @triplestepluzern and @baseljitterbugs for beeing a family I will truly miss the next years ❤️

Don’t mind me—just having a little fun at my first ever @herrangdancecamp ! And yes, my belt opens midway, but I like it anyway.

I never thought I’d dare to dance solo, but these two weeks really inspired me to stand up for my love of dance. I love contributing to this community and appreciate the chance I had to learn this beautiful art form, rooted deep in Black American history. A huge thanks to all the teachers, volunteers, artists, and fellow dancers who made this experience so special and honor this cultural heritage.

You got 4000 weeks (hopefully) in your life. Are you spending them right?

I don’t know if I can answer this always with a big yes. Right now on my way to my 9-5 job. I sometimes struggle with it, on the other hand I am grateful for the security it gives me and also some sort of fulfilling to expand my knowledge and skills in this world.

I want to share these pictures not to spread FOMO or envy. But it’s my egoistic way to prove to myself that I am spending some time of my 4000 weeks with what really matters most to me. Nature, friends and passion.
