Today’s lesson: cooking dinner in Taiwan’s hot springs 🇹🇼

The kids learned how hot springs are created through geothermal activity… and then got to cook their dinner in one.

Science, culture, food, and adventure all in a single afternoon. This is the kind of learning that sticks.

As a mama of 4 who’s traveled often since my oldest was an infant (he’s 10 now), I can confidently say: these work.
I’ve used the same methods with all four kids.

I try to avoid screens when they’re really little — especially while traveling — because it often leads to overstimulation when they’re already tired.

As a minimalist when it comes to homeschool supplies and curriculum, I don’t add a lot of extras to our homeschool. But this Elementary Dictionary is one item I’m really loving and think is worth having on hand.

I especially love that my kids have to find the word themselves, and learn how to use a dictionary instead of just asking me how to spell it. 😂

Maybe the best part of homeschooling is that childhood gets to be part of the curriculum. 🤍

There’s time to stop and notice things. Time to follow their interests, play a little longer, ask a million questions, and let learning happen in the middle of everyday life.

I don’t want to rush through these years just to check everything off a list. I want my boys to have time to be kids, too.

Some days are full of lessons, projects, and plans. Other days feel a little more chaotic. 😂

But one of my favorite things about homeschooling is having the freedom to let learning happen throughout our day instead of rushing from one thing to the next.

Math at the table.
Muffins in the kitchen.
Art while learning about an artist.
And swimming with friends in the afternoon.

Not every homeschool day looks like this, but these are the days that remind me why I chose this life. 🤍
