Every journey begins somewhere… and mine began with Anyia.

She wasn’t the first character I created, but she was the first story I published. From sketches and backstories to cultures, warriors, and magic — Ethonia came alive one character at a time, with Anyia at the center.

And maybe her dream of becoming a warrior was my dream of becoming an author.

Thank you for discovering these worlds with me.

If you’re building a library where Black girls see themselves as the hero, save this post for later — more behind-the-scenes and worldbuilding from Ethonia is coming soon. ✨

Before Anyia can take another bite, she’s interrupted again.

Anyia had barely taken a bite before the first Pepo bug appeared. Spicy apples are their favorite...and where one Pepo bug goes, more follow.

Training to become a Yora meant learning how every part of Nagora worked together.

Anyia didn’t enjoy every duty, but she never minded the berry harvest. In the fields, she could work beside the villagers, fill her basket, and see why the berries mattered so much to her community.

Baby Princess and Anyia may have very different adventures, but their stories aren’t as separate as they seem. 👀

Baby Princess’s mother, Sana, also appears in *Anyia — It Begins*, quietly connecting both series within one growing world.

Different heroes. Different adventures. One connected world.

Did you notice the connection?

Sometimes the hardest battles aren't fought with a battle stick.

They're fought inside your heart.

Anyia dreams of becoming a Nagoran warrior, even though the path ahead won't be easy. Every day she chooses to keep training, keep learning, and keep believing in herself.

✨ Would you follow your dream... even if your world told you not to?

Some choices are about more than a weapon.

The battle stick on the left is the first battle stick Anyia ever trained with. It's simple, worn, and reminds her where her dream began.

The one on the right is different.

She carved it herself from Kork wood, shaping every detail until it felt like an extension of who she was. It's the first battle stick she could truly call her own.

One reminds her where she started.
One reminds her who she's becoming.

✨ If you could only choose one...

Which battle stick would you take into battle? 👇🏾

Anyia’s favorite part of training is when she gets to practice her technique with her battle stick.
