Roots & Riddims #2where music, art, history, politics, spirituality and performance meetFor the second year in a row, Roots & Riddims returns as a gathering space for Black expression, ancestral connection, and collective celebration. A night of music and culture bringing Surinamese, Cabo Verdean, Angolan and Caribbean diasporas together.Through this journey, we draw inspiration from indigenous African spiritual traditions and the Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé — a practice deeply rooted in ancestral reverence, rhythm, ceremony, and the presence of the Orishas. Percussion becomes language. Drum rhythms become memories.Sat 25 July 2026WORM Rotterdamworm.org by @worm.rotterdam

We asked the recent PR intern Eliška Čubova to document her experiences for her internship project, and this film captures her battle, and personal and creative resolution, with the sensory and socio-cultural overload that WORM’s building and activities throws up.Eliška: “This film was made with the intention of making WORM feel like a place of its own, [the place it is, effectively], with an atmosphere that feels different from anywhere else. I really liked using the black-and-white visuals because they make you experience the space differently. Instead of focusing on the bright colours and lights that you usually see at events, black and white simplifies everything and lets you pay attention to the feeling of the space, the people, and the emotions it creates. For me, it was a way of taking away some of the distractions and letting the atmosphere speak for itself. It was also important for me to keep it slow paced, in the same way that it takes time to fully immerse yourself in a new place and slowly take everything in.”WORM Rotterdamworm.org by @worm.rotterdam

Tonight! mundu lawaai live at WORM with many friends 🔥The eclectic lineup also features the trio of Milana Zaric, Aurelié Nyirabikali Lierman and Lucija Gregov, and North Sea Round Town’s Artist in Focus 2026 Chaerin Im, with her live electronics group Neon River. Expect an evening where jazz, electronics, and improvisation merge in unpredictable ways.Tickets available at the link in bio Our last encounter with Neon River 🥵 captured by @nowrelease Trailblazing cellist and improviser Lucija Gregov performs with Aurélie Nyirabikali Lierman & Milana Zarić. The trio performed together for the first time in March 2026 in Rotterdam’s Batavierhuis. Their music evokes a string of ancient rituals brought through to contemporary ears & re-interpreted as a dialogue of chants, multidimensional chord-like structures and overtone interplay between strings, bells and objects. The musicians freely move within their collaborative imagination, creating unexpected connections between Aurelie’s voice and shruti box, Lucija’s powerful cello and Milana’s harp and percussion. by @worm.rotterdam

WORM is cool…Metaphorically and physically this July. Especially with the music programme! One very cool crossover is the film/live show Sound Dreams of Istanbul. That is set for this coming Wednesday, (1 July). It’s a documentary about Istanbul’s improv music scene, with a live gig including the filmmaker, Anıl Eraslan and WORM @electricumbrellla programmer, Ege Sahin @eges_____ amongst others. . More musical hybrids happen courtesy of our friends @sitp_spaceistheplace and @northsearoundtown who present Mundu Lawaai, Neon River, and Lucija Gregov, Lierman & Zarić on Friday (3 July). The SITO/NSRT crossover show is an annual event at WORM and the new stew of improv/jazz/alternative electronica is always hotly anticipated! That’s not all: we host a remarkable “improv musician summit” happening on Sunday (12 July) with @electricumbrellla #32 - Bastien, Monk, Lumley, Rosaly - - Three sets, all different, all inspiring. Don’t miss what we think could be THE “glocal” gig of the summer! So sweat out the old sounds and replace them with new this July in WORM. WORM say: RIP Bob Rusche - WORM friend, radio magician, sonic healer. Bless you, Bob! Team WORM xx WORM Rotterdamworm.org by @worm.rotterdam

The sixth edition of Field Recordings brought three days of experimental and anthropological film, sound and landscape cinema to WORM between 12 and 14 June, 2026.The programme zoomed in on early and unearthed work, with rarely screened work by Marion Scemama and Ivana Mladenović and a newly commissioned film by local talent Raquel Vermunt, all of whom were present for public conversations around their work. We also screened James Benning’s 1977 feature debut, and David Bim joined us online from Cuba for a moving conversation after the screening of his debut To the West, in Zapata. Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s installation The Diary of a Sky drew steady visitors throughout the weekend, and an online selection extended the programme to those who could not be present. It was an intriguing and revelatory festival and thanks go to programmers Marta Hryniuk and Tim Leyendekker. The festival is supported by WORM and Gemeente Rotterdam. Images by Tyna Huong Le @kristyna_lePS.
