Although it’s starting to be sunny out and about, it’s not shorts and t-shirt weather yet ☀️ However, last Summer my @tudorwatch North Flag on a Pelagos Rubber strap was the perfect piece for a sunny summers day! 🏖    My love for this watch actually came as a result of seeing a Reddit user wearing one in similar conditions to as you see above. By a pool and with a Pelagos rubber diving strap. This combo immediately caught my eye but I soon realised that the reality was I’d need to buy the watch and then a rubber strap separately because they were not normally sold together. However, whilst browsing Chrono24 one day I found this exact combo for sale in the US. Fortunately for me I was just finalising a trip to America for my birthday which would see me stop by LA and Las Vegas. Explaining this to the seller he offered to have the watch shipped to my Vegas hotel and on the morning of my birthday I walked down to pick up this dream combo from concierge ⏱    The North Flag is an interesting watch and the only in Tudor’s stable to have a sapphire display back showing off their first attempt of an in house movement. Before this watch every Tudor was offered with a modified ETA movement but, like it’s bigger brother Rolex, they have now only offer in house movements on all models. I love the yellow accents on the dial and it’s strong but simple silhouette. It’s power reserve gauge is unique to this watch too.    This watch was on my wrist for the rest of my USA road trip and many events and summer days after that. It’s a watch I would absolutely own again but it would need to be on that rubber Pelagos strap. This @autodromo Group B Safari Edition is one of those watches I bought not on its mechanical merit or it’s investment proposition but on pure looks alone 🐊 Group B rally cars of the 80’s really was the pinnacle for many and has become the inspiration for a sleuth of now modern brands or products taking inspiration from an amazing era. This 2nd series iteration of the group B watch draws inspiration from the exotic Safari stages Group B was famous for. Races like the Paris-Dakar helped shaped this unique green-plated case and bracelet. I love the integrated bracelet which has a discrete yet brilliant clasp that hides away rather than sitting proud like on most other time pieces. The piece is powered by a Miyota 9015 automatic movement that's housed within a 39mm titanium case. “The Group B Series 2 has become an iconic best seller for the brand,” says Bradley Price, the President and Creative Director of Autodromo. “With this new iteration, I wanted to create a killer monochromatic color scheme that is instantly different. It isn’t easy to do a colored steel bracelet but we found a plating that works really well on the Series 2. Snowflake hands on a snowy day, the Tudor Pelagos LHD is the perfect weapon for a winter walk ☃️⁣ ⁣ If you haven’t noticed already I always wear watches on my right wrist for reasons unbeknown to me. Thinking back I can only assume it has to do with my left handed mother. Right handed myself, the watch on the left wrist always seemed so foreign. So when a watch comes around offering you a Left Hand Dive alternative (and limited in production), I just had to take up the offer. Built in a titanium case, it’s perfectly light whilst incredibly sturdy and the perfect tool watch for any lefties who also enjoy diving or at least the design of a dive watch. I’m not left handed nor a diver but I love the looks and on this rubber strap it just screams UTILITY to me. ⁣ ⁣ The snowy backdrop seemed perfect for such a watch and even better when you consider Tudor’s heritage with snowflakes... “The reasoning behind these snowflake hand was to offer more surface area on the dial for luminescence, thus providing better legibility whilst scuba diving in low light conditions. Additionally, due to their distinct shapes, the hands could immediately be identified from one another, minimizing the possibility of divers mixing up the hour and minute hands while diving in murky waters. This Tudor Oysterthin ref. 7960 was my first vintage watch and I had no idea the significance!⁣ ⁣ When I purchased my first vintage watch, I was doing it more to access a brand at a much lower price point. This watch was 4 times cheaper than the Tudor watch I had originally set my eyes on (and a watch I have ended up owning twice since). But it represented access to a brand I loved, and to me, had a fancinating story to boot.⁣ ⁣ "The thinnest watch ever made by Tudor, only 6 mm thick, the Reference 7960 is a very rare model, produced in small number for only a few years, from 1957 to 1963. In the late 1950s, it went down in watchmaking history as being the thinnest waterproof Tudor wristwatch. Today it remains one of the Tudor timepieces most sought-after by collectors."⁣ ⁣ That last sentence jusitified all of my hours of searching and evaluating the value of the watch I came to buy. It's a fantasticly thin piece at a size most men would assume is now only wearable by women. I wore this watch on and off for over a year and loved it's quirky champagne dial and elegant looks.⁣ ⁣ It's now solidified the need for at least one vintage watch in my collection at any one time. Patek Phillipe is a brand I’ll likely never be able to afford. However, when on a work trip to Paris and a friend asks if you’d like to try his on for size you can’t say no! This Patek Philippe Nautilus 5980/1A is a beautiful piece with its chronograph and date function. It’s the height of watch making brilliance and manufactured to perfection. From the deep black textured dial to the fantastically fitting bracelet, it’s a watch that just felt right on the wrist. I was also surprised with the proportions to my wrist too, with more recent trends producing oversized watches which are less to my liking. Spending a few minutes with this watch on my wrist whilst hurtling along on the Eurostar to a formula E race really did give me an appreciation of what’s beyond the sub £10k retail Rolex/Tudor/Omega world that I live in. The values now reach 6 figures for the right model but the owner of this watch bought at retail and intends to keep.
