Tomorrow, the baby in these photos turns 8. 🥹

In 2019, a friend nominated me for Atlanta Magazine’s Baby & Beyond “Mom Boss” feature.

I said yes—but quietly wondered what made me qualified.

I was a first-time mom, still learning how motherhood fit alongside work, marriage, friendship and the person I had been before James arrived. I certainly didn’t feel like an expert on any of it.

But I showed up.

I dressed James and myself in a way that felt like us. I shared my experience. And a few months later, when I was invited to speak on a Baby & Beyond panel, I started to understand something I’ve carried with me ever since:

I didn’t have to be the expert to have a perspective worth sharing.

There will always be someone who seems more accomplished, more experienced, more confident or simply more qualified.

But their story doesn’t make yours less worthy of being told.

Looking back at these photos almost seven years later, I also smile at something else: before @wornbyamelia had a name, personal style was already part of how I showed up in the world. ❤️

Maybe some parts of who we’re becoming have been there all along.

Happy almost 8th birthday to the little boy who gave me an entirely new version of myself to discover. ❤️

First my 8-year-old said I looked like a teacher from the ’80s. Then somebody in the comments said Ms. Frizzle. 😂

I showed him and he said I should do a side-by-side.

So now he’s my creative director AND my biggest heckler. Anyway… permission slips are due Friday. 🚌💀

The dress code was pink, so naturally I added a little red. 💗❤️

Today’s Sunday best was this Rosewater dress by Trina Turk, and I love how the floral detailing gives it a little something extra.

We wore pink at church today in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Such a beautiful reminder of the strength of the women who are fighting, surviving, and celebrating life. 💕

I bought this jacket with my Belk employee discount nearly 20 years ago—and I’m still wearing it at 42. 🤎

Back then, I was working my first job in television and a second job at Belk. I watched this cropped jacket for months before I finally used my coveted employee discount and brought it home.

I somehow still had this dandelion Boomerang and a Thanksgiving photo from around 2015.

Earlier this year, I pulled the jacket out again and paired it with burgundy-brown trousers and pointed boots.

Almost 20 years. Yikes. 😂 But also: proof that personal style doesn’t have an expiration date—and neither does a great piece.
