April 30th marked the official retirement of Captain Davey from Waterloo Fire.

Karen’s career has been defined by more than just her time on the line; she is a department trailblazer who made history as our first female Captain. Beyond the rank, she has been a vital mentor to the next generation, actively clearing the path for the women following in her footsteps.

Huge congratulations to Senior Firefighter Brett Gibson on his retirement this past Sunday morning.

After 35 years on the job, Brett is finally hanging up his helmet.

Beyond his work on the truck, Brett also served as President of the WPFFA, where he showed incredible leadership and always looked out for his fellow firefighters. He’s been a mentor at the station and a strong voice for the crew for over three decades.

Thank you, Brett, for your hard work and for everything you’ve done for our community and our association. You’ve definitely earned some time to relax.

Three incredible days of training for ourPeer Support Team! We are grateful for the opportunity to come together, learn from one another, and strengthen the skills that help us support our peers when they need it most. Over these past few days we focused on listening, understanding, and building the trust that makes peer support so powerful. We are beyond P roud of this team for their commitment, compassion, and willingness to grow and learn. The work we do for each other truly matters.

As representatives of the WPFFA, we are grateful to reflect on our Federal and Provincial Legislative Conferences from this past month! It was an honour to stand alongside our dedicated peers from across Canada, bringing crucial issues directly to the forefront at Queen's Park and Parliament Hill.

Our discussions were focused on the important topics that matter most to our profession, our members, and public safety.

Beyond the privilege of being in these historic halls, connecting with familiar faces and witnessing the incredible work being done by our representatives provincially and nationally is always a highlight. A special moment occurred at Parliament Hill: being there on Budget Day gave us the unexpected opportunity to meet the former Prime Minister, Jean Chrétien, thanks to the introduction by @bardish_chagger!

A special thanks to @bardish_chagger, @senatormartydeacon @waterloompp, @jess.l.dixon, who all took the time to meet with us and hear our legislative priorities. Your engagement is fundamental to progress. We are committed to continuing these essential conversations and driving meaningful change for our communities and profession. by @wpffa791
