After so many years together, we have built so much side by side. We have shared the highs, the lows, the adventures, the difficult times and the beautiful ones — and through it all, you have always been by my side.

Sometimes it may seem that I take you for granted, so it needs to be said, and said many times: I never do. I appreciate you, every moment we share, and every cell of you.

You are my love, my soulmate, my family. We have travelled so far together — perhaps through many lifetimes already — and I know we still have so much more of this journey ahead of us.

MEET THE TEAM: BARTON LYNCH

1988 World Champion. Pipeline Masters winner. One of the most recognisable voices in surfing — and one of the first people to put their name behind WPSL.

BL didn’t just win a world title. He won it at Pipeline, in the final heat of the season, on a day still remembered as one of the greatest in competitive surfing. Since then he’s spent decades in the commentary booth and in coaching, shaping how the sport is understood by the people watching it.

At WPSL he’s a founding stakeholder and our commentator. As the league builds, Barton will lead the commentary team, help design the competition format, and lead surfing integrity across WPSL.

His reason for being here, in his own words: we’re obliged to tell the story of surfing’s culture and history to a new generation of surfers who may grow up far from the ocean where it all began.

Wave pools change where surfing happens. BL makes sure the sport carries its story with it.

MEET THE TEAM: JAMIE MITCHELL

10x Molokai to Oahu World Champion. Eddie Aikau invitee. One of the most complete watermen surfing has ever produced.

JM built his name the hard way — ten straight years winning the world’s toughest paddle race across the Kaiwi Channel, before moving into big wave surfing and taking on some of the heaviest breaks on the planet, from Jaws to Nazaré. Few athletes in the sport’s history have tested themselves across as many disciplines, or come out on top in as many of them.

At WPSL, Jamie is our Athlete Ambassador and Contest Format Designer — bringing a waterman’s read on wave craft, endurance and competition into how our events are actually built.

Some people study the format. Jamie’s lived it.

MEET THE TEAM: JUSTIN WEST

20+ years coaching surfers from complete beginners to WQS/CT-level athletes. IBJJF European Masters BJJ gold medalist. Builder of teams and businesses in some of the most unforgiving corners of the ocean industry.

Beyond coaching, Justin has been a partner in a travel company running an ocean-going exploration catamaran in the Maldives, co-owned a surf resort in Madagascar, and held a stake in a security company operating in the Middle East. Running teams in remote, high-pressure, sometimes genuinely challenging environments isn’t new to him — it’s how he’s spent most of his career. His jiu jitsu background feeds straight into how he thinks about WPSL — strategy, patience, and finding the advantage before you need it, on the mats as much as in the water.

Justin is our CEO — setting the direction, building the team, and making sure WPSL stays true to what makes surfing surfing, even when the ocean isn’t part of the equation. He leads by example, not dictation.

This league exists because someone who’s built teams in hard places decided wave pools deserved a real competitive home.

MEET THE TEAM: DAN LUGER

Rugby World Cup winner. One of England’s highest-ever try scorers. Late arrival to surfing — full convert.

DL came to the sport later than most of us, but he’s carrying the passion of a true newbie: the kind of relentless drive that once made him one of the most feared wingers in world rugby, part of England’s 2003 World Cup-winning squad and that year’s Six Nations Grand Slam, with 24 tries in 38 caps for his country. That same determination is exactly what he brings to WPSL.

Dan is our Chairman — the glue that holds this team together — and heads up investor relations across the Middle East and worldwide, drawing on a network built over decades in sport and finance.

MEET THE TEAM: PEDRO GUERREIRO

Economist. Quantitative analyst. Experienced Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. The person who makes sure the numbers behind a new sport actually add up.

Pedro built his career in financial forecasting and operational planning, including time inside Red Bull’s event operations and marketing programmes across international markets — seeing first-hand how the world’s best action-sports properties are actually run behind the scenes. On the mats, he’s a calculated competitor, already several moves ahead of his training partners — the same instinct he brings to WPSL’s numbers.

At WPSL, Pedro is our Director of Finance & Operations — leading financial planning, budgeting and the operational infrastructure that turns a big idea into an investable, scalable league.

Every league needs someone who believes in the vision and can prove it on a spreadsheet. That’s Pedro.

My father was an England rugby international and British Lion, but the standard he set as a father was every bit as high as the one he set as a man.

Now that I am a father myself, I understand you in ways I never could before, Dad. I understand the sacrifices, the responsibility, the quiet strength and the love that sits behind simply being there.

You have been gone for some time now, but I don’t think the emptiness ever truly leaves. And perhaps it shouldn’t. That pain is the shadow of something very precious — the love we shared, father and son.

I hope that in being a father to my own son, I carry something of you forward. Your values, your strength, your example, and above all, your love.

You set the fatherhood bar incredibly high, Dad. I only hope I can come close. ❤️
