It’s official! I will be hosting Breakfast Club @breakfast_clubbing in San Miguel de Allende Wednesday mornings from 9-10:30AM at @lacabrailuminada in Centro. Calle Hidalgo 13. Breakfast Club is a global phenomenon of breakfast meetups, founded by my dear friend and ex colleague at Vice Media @dietznutz. We gather creatives together for conversation and to build community. It’s simple! -Everyone’s invited - especially you. -Feel free to share, bring friends, colleagues, family, anyone. -No agenda, no required buy-in, no need to RSVP. And no pitches. -Everyone pays their own way La Cabra Iluminada is a vegan specialty coffee spot rooted in the connection between food, music, and community. A space to gather, exchange ideas, and make room for creativity. As night falls, it transforms into a listening bar, where a carefully curated selection of vinyl records invites you to slow down, discover new sounds, and get lost in the music. Special thanks to the Cabra team @bravogalena @gonz.bravo @alain.mh @el_sg ¡Es oficial!
Excited for the opportunity for expansion with @newinc. For the last two years @bydavi and I have had our heads down working on the research and development, tech, and security of Alma Memorial, a multimedia digital platform that aims to address the issue of femicide in Mexico, where the epidemic of gender violence has resulted in an estimated 10 women and girls being killed daily in the North American country.  We hope to create a sustainable, scalable, and replicable platform that is user-friendly, free to use, and accessible, incorporating trauma-informed and somatic healing practices into UX design to acknowledge moments of grief and joy.  Inspired by the thoughtfulness of Maya Lin, the perseverance of the Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, the families impacted by the MV Sewol ferry capsizing in South Korea, and so many others, we look to create a beautiful digital space that reflects collective feminine energies. Our logo and color palette are inspired by indigenous natural dyes from Oaxaca, tree of life ceramics and philosophies from Metepec, and the collective embroidery circles women inhabit across Mexico. What you see is the dynamic work of designer Jimena García Vázquez (menonitavendequeso.com), who translated our vision into a tangible, beautiful reflection of feminine beauty grounded in nature and Mexican culture. by @write_marina

Baby’s first La Alaborada! The iconic San Miguel tradition kicks off at 4am with a massive street party featuring illuminated papier-mâché stars, brass bands, and a frenetic 90 min. fireworks display in front of the Parroquia. The chaos symbolizes the fight between good and evil. Ten of thousands of cohetes (skyrockets) are launched rapidly and continuously to represent a noisy “celestial battle” between St. Michael the Archangel and Lucifer. It was so intense. But the kid was so psyched about it. by @write_marina
Unforgettable weekend celebrating @___________sau and @matthew_r_herman combining two tribes between Austin, NYC, CDMX y SMA. Chisme over gorgeous steaks @cursi.cdmx, trajinera dance parties, and the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime Robyn concert. Her first ever performance in Mexico. I’m in love with this love. by @write_marina
Bienaventurada. Tepoztlan and CDMX to celebrate a life worth living. by @write_marina
As life would have it, I’ve been working on a project to develop a Latino news product and if felt important to return to @officialnahj for this year’s conference in New Orleans. It was a short but sweet reminder of how important professional organizations are for people at all stages of development, especially as we are feeling the reversal of DEI in all industries. The National Association of Hispanic Journalists has granted me the opportunity to be in the room with heroes, visionaries, students, founders, etc over my entire career, from student journalist to founder. I got to hug a friend I went to college with, reconnect with Latino writers @cruzitabells who remember @mexnthecity , chat with local newsrooms about my next project, and hear Latino content creators talk about their own experiences @nickvalencianews. And the icing on the cake was that I got to hug my favorite living journalist and friend @paoramos who makes everything feel possible. Even though all of this happened in July, I am still processing the information and integrating it into the work that I am doing behind the scenes. Latino media has and will continue to be an important bedrock to me. by @write_marina
All of the good things came together. Nature therapy. The time to coexist with trees and wild flowers and learn the lessons of life through the most fertile season: heirloom tomatoes, farm stand corn, roadside flowers. And on top of that a zine fair and an intro to @1080press that filled our days with poetry and invited an 8 year old to take home poems. He cherished them and asked to read them outloud. Here you have a parent/child collaboration. We are happy to share our summer upstate wealth with you. The poem excerpt is by Alexis Almeida from “The Story of Your Life”. The beautiful house is courtesy of @upstatecurious. by @write_marina
We took a journey. Learned to be present and call in ritual. Learned from Chichimeca elders first hand: the powers of fire, song, and nature. There are no words for this kind of learning. Just deep feelings of gratitude and movements of emotions through time like sedimentary rock, coming undone. Like Rumi said, unlearning is the highest form of learning. So damn proud to root and be rooted. Children of obsidian. by @write_marina
All good beings express themselves in a zine. All good things get named in a zine. Thank you @isabelflower for challenging us to express the inner workings of our motivations and processes of our practice. Within this publication, we sought to define and call on all the natural, social, cultural, political, racial implications that weave in and out of our Social Architecture projects. Honored that a limited edition of these @newinc sponsored zines are available through @metalabel__ . Please help support independent publishing, printing and radical thinking. by @write_marina
With months of anticipation, I arrived back to the bustle of NYC for our Social Architecture cohort presentations with @newinc at the renovated @newmuseum. As with everything that NYC has to offer, all good things happen at once: @bydavi and I presented @almamemorial on a public stage (a true honor), was graced by the dearest friends and colleagues who make this type of work possible @isabelflower @burton.bond @gabhorton , spent substantial time within the New Museum and on the Bowery, was reminded how beautiful and weird and loved we can be, visited some of my favorite places, hugged some of my favorite people. And was reminded how incredibly fortunate I am. by @write_marina
