Had the honour of judging for the 2025 NSW poetry prize.
It was a pleasure to see all the talent out there in NSW and so difficult to make decisions between expressions of such deep and heartfelt emotion. But it must be done…
So glad to be a part of this vibrant community
Also a huge thank you to @writeforusolivia for inviting me to judge by @writeforusolivia

This gorgeous video is credited to @gerdegotit . I'm posting it here as writing inspiration. Fluidity, form, free expression, the universal language of art and the love of art. All of these qualities we seek to capture as writers, beyond the mundane, the boring, and the merely descriptive.

Thank you @gerdegotit for sharing your beautiful gift 🙏 by @writeforusolivia

Amongst the wildness of Sydney 🌪️⛈️ this long weekend I got inspired and am super 😀 with how my story came together. This Halloween I get to dress up as my character. Thank you @whimsy.fiction for the giggles 🤭 by @writeforusolivia

The story I wrote for this month's Whimsy Fiction contest. Even though it didn't place it made my hungry. 🤣 My assigned object was 🍣.

There's a line missing about keeping fresh because the tile formatting sucks but other than that here are some things I learned along the way:

* I write long ass descriptive scenes and maybe for micro fiction I should just focus on one event.
* I always hate the theme in any contest because it feels forced so I usually skirt around it, which is freeing as a writer but not so good for getting shortlisted, but that's okay.
* I wrote this story during a massive depression storm under the bedsheet covers. My little Sashimi became my edible hero. 🫡

Thank you @whimsy.fiction for this month's challenge. by @writeforusolivia

As a whimsical writer I found myself being called to write about things that were definitely not on the bingo list. 🫠😳

Something I am super proud of is creating my own virtual journal, more than a just a blog, it fills my need to see writing that engages and looks gorgeous across the screen. Take a look around, read free content, subscribe, and, if you're in a generous mood head, over to the bookstore. Short stories $4 each or $7 bundle. ❤️
