Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved music. I probably would’ve pursued a career in it if I wasn’t tone deaf and blessed with a nasal timbre.

And for a long time, that dream stayed in the category of “things I’ll do one day”, alongside learning Italian properly (not from listening to Laura Pausini) and becoming a person who exercises daily.

Then, the malfunction happened. And, all of a sudden, I had lines stuck in my head for days. I was finding rhymes. I was humming melodies in the shower. And before I knew it, I had finished my first song.

I’d like to clarify that in no way, shape or form do I think AI is a substitute for musicianship. And I hope that one day I get to re-record all the music I’ve made in a proper studio, with real musicians and singers.

This gave me the opportunity, not only to express myself, but also honor that kid with the nasal voice who always wanted to sing. It might not have been how I imagined it would happen, but it happened.

And honestly, and probably selfishly, I’m less interested in waiting for the perfect version of a dream to arrive and more interested in fulfilling it 🩵 taken in Madrid, Spain by @writingbyumi

When I wrote this song, back in April, I never thought I’d be where I am today. I felt like normalcy was so out of my reach, and time seemed to be moving at a glacial pace.

The feeling still holds though; recovery is a slow process and, even though I’m okay now and feel more like myself every day, I still have a long road left ahead. I’m starting to see the beauty in steadiness, and very grateful for it 🩵

I have to admit that one thing I love about writing is doing the research. Not only is it necessary to make the writing and the story believable, but I also enjoy learning about new things.

Now, the fun part about writing horror/thrillers is letting your freak flag fly as high as you can, without feeling guilty or judged and called it “research”… even if the FBI could find some of it worrisome.

Is this everything I’ve searched for? No. Is it the worst I’ve searched for? No. It’s just part of the research.

For me, writing has always been about unburdening myself: of my troubles, my fears, my problems, my feelings. It’s only recently that I’ve started writing to “unburden” myself of the different stories that live in my head.

This is one thing I never thought I would get to do: release a Christmas song! Not even in my wildest dreams did it ever occur to me that I would be doing this… but, here we are.

I’ve been sitting on this one for almost a year now. I wrote it as a Christmas gift to a friend, and it’s kind of like his Christmas wish to Santa. It’s silly, it’s funny, it’s very niche and it’s jolly! Plus, I think the ending would make a sick audio for a holiday reel. 🎶❤️🎄

When I was younger, I believed closure was something you were given: by an ex-lover, a former friend, or someone you once held close. I thought there needed to be one final conversation where everything was laid out on the table so you could both move on.

But as I’ve grown older, I’ve learned that closure is something you give yourself. It’s allowing yourself to close one chapter and move on to the next.

My weapon of choice is writing. Whether it’s writing a song or creating dialogue for my characters, I release everything I’ve been holding on to, all the things left unsaid, and keep going.
