I try to share uplifting, hopeful things on social media, because a lot of people tell me they find my content helpful in that regard, but I think it's also helpful to point out that bad times, hard days, and struggle happen, and queer joy isn't pretending they have been cancelled out by a list of 'successes'.
I believe in gratitude as a way of countering depression and discouragement, but I want you to know that you don't have to force a smile, and it's actually important to be real about the tears too.
My hope is that, by me being visible as myself, you can know that we're always works in progress, and queer joy isn't measurable success, it's community focus and solidarity, and a choice to be defiantly yourself when you are told you shouldn't be, even when you're having a difficult time. by @writingknighting

Conker trees, books, and quiet days in our little burrow.

I keep getting asked what I want to do for my 50th birthday in November. I don't think many folk understand I'm still incredulous about having got that far. I have days where I still don't really think it'll even happen, and days when the weight of 5 decades of stuff feels way too heavy.
Life is a struggle right now for us, but I know damn well that life is always a struggle to one degree or another. Having someone to laugh and cry with and hold onto in the midst of it makes such a difference. I don't think I've achieved much in my life, but I do think getting to spend the rest of it with this wonderful woman is how it must feel to win everything. by @writingknighting

Last year I was one of the seven dwarves, but my lady wanted a break from being Snow White, so I had to match her energy. Kay, a white butch, dressed as Rick O'Connell from The Mummy. He wears a white shirt, tan trousers, and a purple neckerchief, with various tan leather accessories. by @writingknighting

My lady and I have long personified our rollercoaster of fate as a Goddess we named Capricia. She's not always been kind. Downright mean, on occasion.

I felt like I needed a little guy in my corner, so this is the Hope Gnome. He doesn't have any real power to change things, and his hat is too big and covers his eyes so he's got no idea where he or I am going, but he's got his thumbs up, and definitely wants the best for everyone. He's my kinda guy. by @writingknighting
