I am a little overdue for an updated introduction for those that are both new to my page, and those already familiar with my journey!

Hi, I'm Olivia Katz 👋 A reader and writer who loves mystery and suspense as much as a good romantasy.

I'm also excited to announce that I've decided to forgo the wonderful place that is the query trenches, despite the full I still have out, and the numerous pending and unanswered queries. I realized it wasn't the path for me when I started thinking-- truly thinking-- about the product I wanted to send forth into the world. My dreams are so big, and I realized they didn't even have to involve the trials and tribulations of a book deal for them to come true.

I am so happy and excited to move forward, navigating this space as a new indie author. If all goes well, I'm hoping to publish in 2027!

One of my longer, perhaps a little dramatic, and rather vulnerable posts - so thank you to all who see this 💛

I may or may not be as active this upcoming week due to a busy week in school, but I needed to post this because this has been on my mind, and I would love to hear from others.

By no means have I been in the querying trenches long. Some authors spend YEARS there. I've only been there for less than 4 months.

But the experience of querying has gotten so bleak that I've started to go numb.

The rejections aren't painful anymore, and the wins don't bring happiness.

In a recent online pitch event, I got 3 requests. But it took me more than a week to even respond. My brain was saying to me, "why put in all this time and work if it's going to be a rejection anyway?"

3 months ago I would've dedicated my entire afternoon making sure those submissions were sent that day.

Now I'm questioning everything because I don't know what's normal. How do people cope with rejection emails every other day?

Is feeling indifferent a good thing? A bad thing? Is it resilience? Self-preservation? Or problematic?

It's not like I've been sitting around doing nothing waiting for agent responses. I dedicate most of my time to grad school, supporting my husband, working as a nurse, and finding time to unwind.

But I want to feel hope again, excited for my book again. I can't imagine throwing in the towel now.

I just don't know how long to wait to decide whether another publishing route is the right one for me.

Just a little sprinkle of Bixby to bless your feed on this dreary weekend.

Bixby is definitely not picky... unless it comes to being tucked in. Because yes, he typically spends his days wrapped like a little black bean purrito, and he rarely accepts anything less. 🌯

He's been known to marinate in his nest for hours at a time, raising concerns on whether he needs food or water.
I may or may not be leading by example. Does anyone else's book buddy do this?

9 years ago, I met the man who put all other MMCs to shame on the cliff walk outside my college dorm. And 3 years ago today, I got to marry him by the very same ocean🤍

I was 21 and you were 24. Whenever I gazed up at the moon, for some reason I always thought about what you were doing in that moment too, before I even knew who you were.

I knew one day I'd find you. But little did I know, I would when I least expected it. The love I have for you has only seemed to grow in exponential, inexplicable ways as we've grown into the people we are today.

I love your mind, your soul, your spirit, and your heart. I love your creativity, integrity, compassion, humor, and the way you care deeply for all living things. You are a protector, gentle and patient and steadfast, and everything I'd always dreamed of.

More years will fly by in the blink of an eye, and if it means I get to love you for that time, I'll be the luckiest person in the world🤍
