sooooo i’m only twenty pages into this book and i have a great feeling about this one 🤭 it’s been a while since i picked up a true fantasy book and so far this book has everything i want want. from what i’ve picked up it’s like cinderella x the little mermaid x historical fiction meaning it’s right up my alley 😙

if you’ve read it, let me know what you thought (or if it’s on your tbr lol) 🧚

also thank you @bublywater for keeping me company 💗

me, my progress, the moodboard for my new novel

i’ve had to accept the fact that i cannot in fact do everything at once 🙄. as you may or may not know, i finished the first draft of my cyberpunk novel (project.eclipse) in december. i had plans to be working on draft two by now, but sadly that is not the case. i’ve had to make the excitative decision to put writing to the side for now and make my schoolwork the main priority. if i stay on schedule i should graduate by mid/late april (which is super exciting 😙).

in the meantime, i don’t want to just not write at all, so i’ve been spending a little time each day working on a side project of mine. project.mayhem (see slide 3 for moodboard) is a dark fantasy that follows four people, ages 18-19, exploring their different cravings for revenge. a couple weeks ago i came up with the tagline: how far can you take revenge before it takes you? and as simple (or complex) as that line may seem, i feel it perfectly sums up what i want this story to be. i’ve always loved the idea that love conquers all and so (of course) there is quite a bit of romance laced throughout this story.

my characters Lavina (bottom left), Scarlet (upper right), Vincent (upper left), and Leland (bottom right) all come from very different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common—a seething goal for revenge.

i love my other novel (that now sits printed out staring at me from across the room as i write this), but i love it so much that i know i need to wait to dive back into that story when i have the time and attention it deserves (because trust me when i say it needs A LOT of work (but it’s going to be SO worth it)).

this new project (project.mayhem) has opened a new type of creativity i have never experienced before. i honestly think that is because i learned so much about the process of writing from draft one of project.eclipse, and now i am able to apply all that knowledge to my current process.

if you read all of that, thank you lol. i’m curious to see who reads long captions like these so do me a favor and comment who you think the romantic ties are between (im curious 🤭).

love,
em
