Fun fact: I am a Nail Tech by trade and I love my job.

My undergrad was in public relations and communications, and I worked in my field for a total of a year before going back to nails.

There’s something to be said about the opportunity to listen to stories. I love how my clients share their emotions with me. I’m grateful for their joy. I empathize with their pain. Most of all, I am reminded of what it means to be human and experience these feelings.

My clients encourage me to write every day, whether directly or not, they give me inspiration.

I think that’s why I write such emotionally driven stories.

Living In a fantasy.

This trip has really been an incredible part of my writing journey. When I was drafting project elements, everything was inside of my head. I didn’t expect my real life experience to feel exactly like what I saw in my head. It’s almost as if I’ve done it before in another life.

Project Elements synopsis:

Eliza Avera is a prodigal alchemy student, poised to rise among Azora’s elite-until she’s torn from her academy and the boy she loves by Kowan rebel forces.

Held deep in enemy territory, Eliza must navigate a war she’s been taught to fear, surrounded by enemies who she was taught to hate. She’s determined to escape, to return to the life she knows.

The person behind the keyboard is not the same.

I’m baack. And the algorithm is punishing me for not being gone. But hey. That’s okay, I’m here for the community. Not the numbers.

Being in south east Asia for two weeks has been life-altering. There’s something to be said about stepping out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself into a whole new world—in person!

It came at a time where I needed it most. I felt so claustrophobic as a 32 year old. The weight of expectations was heavy on my head and my creativity really took a hit.

Now I’m back, refreshed, new eyes, and a new perspective.

And that is,

Is there a word to describe this feeling?

I’ve been here in my imagination. I’ve dreamed this place in my mind.

This scene is from my current WIP, project elements, where my main character discovers her goddess’s tree for the first time.

There’s a sense of awe here. Something ancient stirs in the wind and sandstone beneath your feet.

I haven’t written a thing for a month but I feel so inspired.

I’ll be on vacay for 3 weeks starting next week 💪💪💪.

For the last month, I’ve only been able to focus on editing 1 chapter of BTLU. I was very frustrated with myself. But instead of beating myself up, I’ve decided to just ride this break in the wave and come back refreshed.

This way she’s here forever.

There’s something cathartic about writing someone or something into your story you want to keep alive. It’s a way of healing, of knowing that part of them gets to live on in the pages.

My first dog’s name was tootsie, she exists in my current WIP—an ode to her and the goodbyes that I didn’t get to say. by @writtenbyhanly
