Nothin’ better than a little Monday dare!
🤣😂😂

I love a good challenge and so do boys!

I highly underestimated the determination I was up against with these 2–who knew the switch held so much power.

My favorite comment caught off camera, “I just knew as soon as I got her laughing we’d win”
—Jack. 😂

Just you wait boys Tuesday’s Dare is coming!

The Birth of Written in Salt!

This gestational period has been 20 years in the making! Having it all come together and come together on one Sunday afternoon with my family and those precious words. “Can we watch family home videos” was such a cool moment!

Dad I miss you dearly!

But the sentiment ‘when one door closes—other one opens.’ Feels very real right now.

Dad as a parent —Part 1 by @writteninsalt

It sounds cliché — but that’s the era I’m in!

Bring all the reminders to slow down and take time with these humans! by @writteninsalt

We’re entering a new chapter folks!!!
THE TEEEEENS!!!!

I couldn’t be more excited!!!
I know lots of parent fear this phase. And maybe I’ll eat my words, but I’m excited for them to try out their own choices.
I’m excited + hopeful to see if we’ve created a family culture they feel is a safe haven. Somewhere they can escape from their friends and the world. But in the same breathe bring their friends over and have a 90s party!

Only time will tell!

Here’s to the remaining 11 years I have with my kids at home! 18 years goes by so fast!

Swing Arm City is our family’s favorite annual trip that we take! And these are five tried and true fun things we do regularly every time we go down!

1 motorcycles/fourwherlers/atvs — is an absolute must. Don’t forget goggles!

2 rockets — there is so much space and an absolute must! (Comment ROCKET) and I’ll send you a do it yourself rocket to put together before the trip)

3 kickball — again so much space and if you’ve got a crew! WORTH IT!

4 movie projector — download a good movie. There’s no service here. And when the sun goes down bundle up in the sleeping bags and watch a movie. Hang a sheet from the side of the vehicle & munch on some marshmellows

5 — fugitive! BEST PLACE TO PLAY THIS GAME! Drop runners a mile away from camp.
Goal is for the runners to make it back to camp without being spotlighted. (And their name called)

Which costume is your favorite?! by @writteninsalt

Hey mama.

I know it’s tough right now. 3 kids under 6. Outnumbered in every way. You feel like you’re bouncing between poopy diapers, managing nap time, wiping tears, boosting confidence, plus still managing all the household chores, and you still haven’t changed out of your gym clothes.

Or yesterday’s gym clothes?

No matter.

In fact, when WAS the last time you thought of yourself? Or took 5 minutes to do something for you? Feels like an eternity ago, doesn’t it…?

Well, that’s why I’m writing. To send love.

You’re doing a great job! And here’s what I can see from where I’m standing now: the best thing you did for yourself at this very moment was to SAVE THE STORY. Videoing the moment. I know it seemed crazy and ambiguous when the idea landed. But it’s been the best decision of your life.

Not because anything traumatic happens. But because now you’re on the backside of motherhood, and it’s those seemingly insignificant moments that have your kids reflecting, building confidence, and sharing gratitude for the rad family they have.

The one where Max is in his high chair eating blueberries making a mess. Or walking in on Rebecca painting Max’s face with mascara! Or the impromptu trip to Yellowstone.

Yup, those are the moments your kids get to see on repeat. And they love it!

Now that they’re teens, they see how cool they actually had it and they want to bring their friends along. Just like you hoped…

So keep it up!

When taking pictures + storing telling collide! It’s the best kind of magic! 🪄
Here’s a few tips to help you be a better storyteller teller in your family. by @writteninsalt

Give your child the biggest job they can handle not the smallest job they can do.

I had to read this a couple times and let it sink in.

When the age of the kid lines up with a task that stretches them a little bit. The child begins to feel a sense of responsibility. The power of that feeling —responsibility, is an incredible tool for a growth mindset.

In an effort to not squish that growth mindset or enable it in a positive way.

I’ve learned to slow down and back off as a mom. The hardest thing to do as a parent is to NOT jump in to rescue the situation from a mess, or rush the situation because I can do it more efficiently, more effectively.

Slowing down and letting them ask questions/discover and make mistakes. IT’S so hard!!

But I’ve witnessed the independent successes these kids feel when they’re able to take responsibility of a job seemingly bigger than they are.

And it’s worth it!
