Since I was a kid, I always dreamed of graduating from The University of Alabama. I didn’t know what life would look like when I got here, but I just knew I wanted this moment. I thought it would feel like everything finally falling into place, like I’d have it all figured out. But the truth is, it’s been nothing like I imagined.

COVID stole my senior year of high school. Everything I worked for, everything I looked forward to… prom, graduation, those last memories with friends and it was all just gone. No closure, no real ending. So when I came to Alabama, I felt like I had something to prove. To the world, to my family, but mostly to myself. I needed this win because the last chapter ended so wrong.

These last four years broke me in ways I didn’t expect. I lost myself so many times, trying to figure out who I was supposed to be. There were days I felt like I was just going through the motions, pretending like I was okay when I wasn’t. I learned what it feels like to fail and not know how to face it. I learned how rejection can make you question everything about yourself. But I also learned that you can’t run from it. You have to own your mistakes, your choices, even when it hurts. Even when you want to blame the world, you’ve gotta face yourself.

I’ve had nights where I wondered if I was even cut out for this. Where I doubted if I’d ever be enough. But somehow, I kept showing up. And now I’m here with a degree in Marketing and Sales, yeah, but more importantly, I’m still standing. I’m still here.

I won’t pretend this was a perfect journey. It wasn’t. It was messy, painful, confusing. But it was real. And I’m proud of the person I’ve become because of it. To the kid who dreamed of this, and to the person who fought through it all to make it here, YOU DID IT BRO!! And that’s something no one can take away from you!!!

I am black...Being black means being strong. We constantly have to fight for what we want and prove that we are better than how they perceive us. We are often viewed as Worthless, Weak, and Ignorant, however to be BLACK is to be Strong, Intelligent, and Powerful.
