EEEE! I’m so excited about Big Book Club, taking place tomorrow at 4pm at @belmontbooks . We’re discussing WHISTLER by Ann Patchett and OH BOY do I have things to say. Do you? You should join us! @jenna_blum and I will be leading the discussion, and we can’t wait to hear what you thought. (There WILL be spoilers, though, so only come if you have finished the book or don’t care). I hope to see you there! by @wscharer
So… is the TBR Writing & Publishing Conference for YOU? 👀 TBR was built for writers at two distinct stages of the publishing journey: 📖 Writers gearing up to publish their FIRST book—whether you’re drafting, revising, querying, or trying to figure out what comes next. 📚 Writers working on books two, three, four, five, and beyond—navigating the realities of building and sustaining a writing career. Because the questions don’t stop once you get published. They just change! That’s why TBR brings craft AND the business of publishing into the same space, with sessions designed to meet writers where they are—and help them figure out where they’re going next. If you’re serious about your writing and want to learn alongside people who get it, there’s a seat for you here. ❤️ 📅 January 16–17, 2027 📍 Cambridge, MA 🎟️ Early Bird Registration is open now — link in bio! Want to keep your readers guessing? You might need to take something AWAY. 👀 Meet TBR 2027 presenter @hankpryan ! Hank recently sat down with writer and interviewer @michellehooverauthor of The 7am Novelist to talk about STRIPPING A POV TO SAVE SUSPENSE—and how the perspective you choose (or lose) can completely change what your reader knows, when they know it, and how desperately they need to keep turning the pages. 🔎📚 🎙️ Listen to Hank’s full conversation with Michelle on The 7am Novelist. Then, learn from the USA Today bestselling thriller author IN PERSON at TBR 2027 during SUSPENSE, INTRIGUE, & DANGER: WHAT MYSTERY WRITERS CAN TEACH US ALL. And no, mystery writers aren’t the only ones invited. 👀 Whether you write literary fiction, romance, memoir, or anything in between, Hank and her fellow panelists will dig into pacing reveals, planting clues (and red herrings), building dread, and structuring stories that keep readers hooked page after page. 📅 Sunday, January 17 | 10:45–11:45 AM 📍 TBR 2027 | Cambridge, MA 🎟️ Early Bird Registration is NOW OPEN — link in bio! #TBRConference #WritingCommunity #WritingConference #WritingTips #WritersOfInstagram by @wscharer

TBR WRITING & PUBLISHING CONFERENCE, January 16–17, 2027, in Cambridge, MA. “My Publishing Matchmaker sessions were AMAZING.” 👀 We could tell you why we love Publishing Matchmaker, but we think our writers say it best! 🤍 Unlike a traditional pitch session, TBR’s Publishing Matchmaker puts interest FIRST. You submit your materials and tell us who you’d most like to meet. Participating agents and editors review submissions and tell us who THEY want to meet. Then, we make the matches. That means when you walk into your meeting, you already know there’s genuine interest on the other side of the table—and you can spend your time having a meaningful conversation about your work. Just ask 2026 participant Kim Garvey, who called her Matchmaker sessions “outstandingly beneficial” as a debut author. ✍️ Publishing Matchmaker sign-ups for TBR 2027 are OPEN, with 40+ participating agents and editors this year. Meetings are optional and available exclusively to registered TBR attendees. 💘 Ready to meet your match? I’m SO excited to be starting a new quarterly IN PERSON book club at @belmontbooks ! It’s called Big Book Club, and the first meeting is Sunday November 1st at 4pm. Each quarter, we pick one of season’s biggest books, the prizewinner or bestseller dominating every group chat and book club, and have two writers with opposing views hash it out. The pick for fall 2026 is WHISTLER by Ann Patchett. Ann Patchett is practically universally beloved, but this book has been making huge waves at book clubs across the nation because of its ambiguous — and contentious! — ending. This time, I’ll be joined @jenna_blum and we both have THINGS TO SAY about this book. She and I will be in conversation for the first twenty minutes, and then we open up to audience discussion. The goal isn’t to tear a book down but to revel in the differing, passionate opinions that great literature can inspire. Co-sponsored by @tbr.conference and Belmont Books. by @wscharer
Hi Arlington/Belmont/Cambridge friends! My wonderful, politically-active daughter, @illustrating_our_truth , is hosting a @nokingscoalition event on Saturday, October 17th at @belmontbooks from 4-6pm. She has supplies for everyone to make Get Out the Vote buttons. Make them for yourself or give them out to friends and family. I am so proud of her and would love for this event to be a success, so please join her if you are free that afternoon! by @wscharer
The bad news: yes, you have to spoil the ending. 😬 The good news: we’re going to teach you how! Join New York Times bestselling author, editor, and marketer @jenna_blum on October 14 for SPOILER ALERT: HOW TO WRITE A SYNOPSIS THAT SELLS YOUR BOOK—a 90-minute online workshop dedicated to demystifying one of the most dreaded documents in a writer’s submission package. ✍️ How long should it be? What actually needs to make the cut? How do you condense an ENTIRE book into one or two pages without losing its voice, emotional arc, or stakes? And yes... how do you give away the ending while still making someone desperate to read the book? Jenna will break it all down so you can stop fearing the synopsis and start making yours work for your story. And for our Publishing Matchmaker writers: you’ll need a synopsis with your submission, so consider this your chance to get yours ready. 👀 📅 Wednesday, October 14 | 7–8:30 PM ET 💻 Live on Zoom 🎟️ $75 🔗 Register now at the link in bio! #TBRConference #WritingWorkshop #WritingCommunity #QueryingAuthors #WritingTips writing synopsis, how to write a synopsis, book synopsis, querying authors, literary agents, publishing tips, query package, manuscript submission, Publishing Matchmaker, TBR Conference, online writing workshop, Jenna Blum, writing craft, traditional publishing, aspiring authors by @wscharer
We want more writers in the room. 🤍 TBR 2027 is offering a limited number of scholarships to help make this year’s conference more accessible to our writing community. Scholarship recipients will receive: ✨ 50% off TBR conference registration ✨ 50% off one Publishing Matchmaker meeting, if applicable Applications are open NOW through October 14, 2026, and all applicants will hear back by October 23. If cost has been a barrier to joining us in Cambridge, we hope you’ll apply. And if you’re in a position to help another writer attend, you can also contribute directly to our scholarship fund—our scholarships are made possible in part by the generosity of conference-goers and sponsors. 🤍 🔗 Apply for a scholarship or support the fund at the link in our bio. 📍 TBR Writing & Publishing Conference 📅 January 16–17, 2027 | Cambridge, MA #TBRConference #WritingCommunity #WritingConference #WritersOfInstagram #Publishing by @wscharer
What if building your writing career isn’t ONLY about the writing? 👀📚 Meet TBR 2027 presenter @alexismwrightwrites ! Alexis recently sat down with writer and interviewer @michellehooverauthor of The 7am Novelist to talk about literary citizenship, and how showing up for other writers, organizations, and the literary community can become just as career-defining as what happens on the page. From reading for literary magazines and teaching fellow writers to working with arts organizations, Alexis shares concrete examples of how one act of service or connection can lead to another, and why building a writing life can mean becoming part of the ecosystem that makes those lives possible in the first place. 🎙️ Listen to Alexis’s conversation with Michelle on The 7am Novelist for her advice on doing literary citizenship RIGHT. And this January, Alexis is taking that conversation one step further IN PERSON at TBR 2027 with SOFT SKILLS: HOW TO NETWORK EFFECTIVELY WITHOUT FEELING LIKE AN ASSHAT. 👀 Because building a literary community is one thing. Actually walking into a room, talking to people, and making meaningful connections without feeling awkward, transactional, or like… well, an asshat? That’s a skill, too. 😅 📍 Lesley University | Cambridge, MA 📅 January 16–17, 2027 🎟️ Early Bird Registration is NOW OPEN — link in bio! Get to know one of the writers you’ll be learning from before we see you in Cambridge. 👀 #TBRConference #WritingConference #WritingCommunity #WritingCareer #Publishing Alexis M.
