🎙️🏀 In June, WSHR students were invited to cover the NBA Draft at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Elio Portillo, our Head of Studio, recently debuted a mini-documentary capturing what that experience meant to the students and our media network. The coverage showcased professional-level work by student broadcasters and producers who have continued to excel: ⭐ Alyssa Tappin graduated as Sachem’s most decorated student journalist ⭐ Chase Biesiadecki was promoted to Sports Director ⭐ Elio Portillo was promoted to Head of Studio ⭐ AJ Bracero was promoted to Creative Director ⭐ Patrick Coursen was promoted to Head of Photography and Executive Producer Give students meaningful opportunities, the support to grow and the freedom to create, and they will show you what they can do. We’re proud of how this group has embraced every challenge and helped raise the standard for student media. Watch the mini-doc and see why WSHR continues to lead as Long Island’s #1 Student Media Network, delivering professional-grade reporting across platforms. #LongIsland #StudentMedia #NBA #Journalism by @wshrsachem

🌟 A LESSON IN PERSEVERANCE, KINDNESS AND BELIEVING IN YOURSELF! Students in Emily Hearney’s fourth-grade class at Lynwood Elementary recently experienced an unforgettable lesson about overcoming challenges, embracing differences and never giving up! The class learned about Ezra Frech, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars contestant who was born with limb differences and has inspired people around the world through his determination and athletic achievements. Inspired by his journey, students completed a writing activity reflecting on kindness, accepting others and overcoming obstacles in their own lives. But the lesson didn’t end there! After seeing how deeply Ezra’s story resonated with her students, Mrs. Hearney reached out to share their writing and personal messages with him. To everyone’s surprise, Ezra responded with a personalized video message just for the class! 🎥👏 The students were thrilled to hear directly from someone whose story had inspired them, bringing their classroom lesson full circle in a truly memorable way. A powerful reminder that our differences make us unique, kindness matters and perseverance can take us to incredible places! #LynwoodElementary #StudentSuccess #Perseverance #Kindness #EzraFrech by @wshrsachem

🎙️ Another historic night for WSHR Sachem! For the first time in our station’s 59-year history, WSHR produced a live simulcast of a Sachem sporting event across radio, television, and streaming platforms! This milestone reflects 18 months of growth, teamwork, and passionate students willing to learn, take chances, and try something new. From behind the microphones to behind the scenes, our students delivered. Special shoutout to Elio Portillo, Patrick Coursen, Chase Biesiadecki and AJ Bracero for their hard work preparing for this moment. Thank you to Sachem and WSHR alumni Chris R. Vaccaro, Tino Pattigno and Michael Coursen for bringing their professional production expertise back home. This was also done in partnership with Sachem Athletics, thanks to an educational grant secured for production equipment. Student voices. Alumni support. Sachem pride. Another chapter in WSHR history, with so much more ahead! 🙌 #WSHR #Sachem #StudentMedia #SachemPride #LongIsland by @wshrsachem
