Turns out, I too can do a lot with a broken heart ✨

The most recent Taylor Swift album disappointed me ina million and one ways, but primarily the heartbreaking realization that I have officially outgrown all the things I used to love.

Being a ‘Swiftie’ used to be an integral part of my identity but not it doesn’t feel like a badge I can wear with pride, nor do I want to.

This piece is about outgrowing fandom and fan culture, about how the things you love are a reflection of you, about cancel culture and being offline for about 2 years.

✨ Welcome to Mayajalam, aka my Substack of essays, poetry, and another nonsense✨

Over the past year, I have missed having a creative outlet. This Bookstagram was that space for me for so long but I fell out of love with it all.

But with the crippling effects of new adulthood, corporate 9-5’s, and the general highs and lows of being a twenty something with no money and no prospects, I have come back to the internet to seek refuge.

My Sub-stack, Mayajalam, aims to be that outlet for me. I have missed writing and the thrill of a Tumblr blog. The word Mayajalam in Malayalam means magic and illusions. It was also the name of my favorite movie theater growing up, and the name of almost every animal crossing island, and online home I’ve had. To me, Mayajalam my own personal magical little island in the massive space that is the internet.

I will also get back to posting on this instagram, for no reason other than I miss it. I will still talk about books, but also sometimes it will be just be pretty pictures and notes app poetry.
