Mandatory bike leaning on stuff with a bunch of stuff attached pic. @azt300_800 starts for me and the other 300 riders Thursday morning. Going for adventure not speed on this one. Full sleep kit and lot of food to start. Was struggling getting everything in a seat bag but thanks to the generosity of @jacob_hora I have a sick new @tailfincycling rack to use. Always happy when the pros I coach offer the sweet schwag. Thanks Jacob!💪 This is still one of the lightest set ups I have run though. Do enough of these rides and you get a pretty solid idea of what is worth the space and weight and what isn’t. by @wukarfit

No gym next week and part of the following. I will be attempting to ride 300 miles in Stabbyville, also know as the Arizona Trail 300. I’ll post here when I get back and the gym is open. Good luck to all my NICA athletes and my Lifetime GP athletes as you close out your season. by @wukarfit

PUHSAWA, (pick up heavy sh*# and walk around) has always been in my programs. Earlier this summer I discovered @thestonecircletraining and something clicked for me. A little back story. My last @itialaska attempt ended when I had to quickly lift and thrown my 70lb bike off the trail about half way up the Happy Steps (an ironic name if there ever was) to make way for a snowmobile convoy hauling supplies. My already herniated but not presenting L4-5 got really pissed and I more or less had to push my bike for the next 8 hours to get to an extraction point. So the a ha moment with sandbags for me was this is exactly what bike packing is. Moving a weirdly shaped unstable load across weirdly shaped unstable terrain. Pedaling is a bonus. It also checks my 2 favorite boxes. Simple, and not easy. I’m not Cody so I am not using Cody weight. This is a 100lb sandbag which for me and my purposes and current skill is heavy. Over time it will get heavier but that is not the goal. The goal is to make my 60 year old body ready for anything I will encounter in Alaska this winter. The great thing about PUHSAWA is you don’t need an actual sandbag. They are pretty sweet and not very expensive. Do you have something that’s awkward to carry? Great, use that. See you on the trail. by @wukarfit

Saddling up for 140 miles tomorrow to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. I am riding for my friends and family that cancer has taken from me. For my friends that are battling right now and for everyone stricken by this shitty disease. I don’t ride this bike much these days and it is pretty dated, but I absolutely love this rig. Rim brakes, 25c tires, mechanical shifting. It just works. Running the top tube bag filled with @never.second gels and C90 mix. This event is fully supported but I would rather bonk than choke down any other gels or mix. If you would like to donate there is a link in my stories. by @wukarfit

First bike packing trip in well over a year. Instagram is always a highlight reel and the last 18 months or so have had very few for me. This is not a sympathy post at all. Various health problems and the loss of a family member to cancer have forced a shift in priorities. Things don't happen to us, they just happen. All we can control is how we respond. I always tell my injured athletes. "We know what you can't do. Let's figure out what you can do." That is basically what I have been doing. This trip was not impressive in terms of mileage or the difficulty of the route. 80 miles in 2 days. For me though it was massive. Hopefully a step towards more. If nothing else the last year taught me I can handle hard things and grow from them. I want to build on that. Personally and professionally. 💪 by @wukarfit
