Dio held this note for 13 beats in “Stargazer.”

That is one hell of a vocal moment.

What I love about Dio is that it wasn’t just about hitting the note. His control, dynamics and phrasing are what made his performances so theatrical.

I’ve been working on the full song, and I wanted to pull this section out and give you a little taste.

I’m putting in the work.

I’m Amie Bishop — Lady Evil — and this is a little look at what goes into getting ready for Lady Evil: The Ronnie James Dio & Black Sabbath Legacy Tribute in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Right now, we’re all at home learning our parts individually, and we’ve already got our rehearsal schedule mapped out. There’s a lot that goes into putting this show together, and I’m starting about six weeks ahead of time to get myself ready.

This is just a little piece of the process.

You’re seeing 15 seconds. I’m putting in 3 hours a day.

Six weeks before the show, the preparation begins. Vocals, conditioning, choreography, costumes, rehearsals, stage plots, the band — there’s a lot that goes into stepping onstage as Lady Evil.

I’m going to try my best to take you behind the scenes and show you what it really takes to prepare for this tribute. What you see here is only a tiny piece of it.
