My dear Ada,
I can never forget your birthday in Mauritius. It was such a beautiful time, and, most especially, the first time we all truly bonded. Looking back, I’m so grateful that life brought you into my circle because knowing you since then has been such a beautiful experience. You have been nothing but a sweetheart, and I cherish the beautiful person that you are. 🩷

Today, I celebrate YOU and the joy, warmth and love you bring to the people around you. May this new chapter be filled with countless reasons to smile, celebrate and be grateful. May God continue to bless you abundantly, favour you, protect you and grant you the desires of your heart.
Happy Birthday, darling. Love you dearly! 🤗🩷 @adaezeosubor by @wunmiosode

I’m a living testimony. 🙏🏼
I’ve tried to find the words to explain everything I’ve been through lately, but I simply can’t yet. I’m still taking it all in.
All I know is that God has been incredibly merciful to me.
There were those near d***th moments , yet here I am.

Still here.
Still breathing.
Still standing.
Still living.
And my heart can only say one thing…

THANK YOU, LORD. 🙏🏼
Thank You for the life I sometimes take for granted.
Thank You for the mercy I cannot repay.
Thank You for protecting me in ways I may never fully understand.
Thank You for giving me another chapter when my story could have ended differently.
I know, with everything in me, that God has given me an extension on this life and I will never, ever take that gift lightly.

Lord, from the deepest part of my heart… THANK YOU. ❤️🙏🏼

One day, I’ll tell my story.
And very soon, I will. For now, I’m just grateful to be here. Next time you see me, just hug me warmly because I’m just coming from a lot and I pray God will fix your own ‘lots’ in ways you never imagined. Amen 🙏🏼 by @wunmiosode

The hardest part of grief is realizing that the world doesn’t stop just because yours did.
You wake up, go through the motions, watch the days pass… while a part of you is still standing in the moment everything changed.

People keep laughing. Life keeps happening and somehow you’re expected to keep going with a heart that hasn’t caught up but healing doesn’t mean forgetting,
It means learning to carry the loss and still make room for life.

You can miss someone and still smile.
You can hurt and still feel joy.
You can grieve deeply and still choose to live. Moving forward doesn’t mean leaving anyone behind. Sometimes, it means finally giving yourself permission to live again. #missyoumummy😢❤️ by @wunmiosode

Someone watched a glimpse of my mother’s funeral and asked, “Were you crying or were you dancing?”

The answer is: we were doing both.

Because where we come from, grief does not always wear only tears.

In our culture, when a parent has lived a good and meaningful life, raised their children, seen generations after them, and is laid to rest by those children, we mourn the loss deeply, but we also celebrate the life wholeheartedly.

We cried because we will miss our mother.

We danced because we are grateful that she lived.

We sang because even in our sorrow, we had something to thank God for.

We celebrated because her life was bigger than the sadness of her passing.

There is something deeply rooted in our culture about gratitude. We honour our parents not only with our tears, but with music, family, colour, prayer, dancing and thanksgiving. It does not mean the pain is absent. It means that alongside the pain, there is gratitude.

Gratitude that we had her.

Gratitude for the years God gave us together.

Gratitude for the family she raised, the values she planted, the memories she left behind and the generations that carry her legacy forward.

So yes, we cried. And yes, we danced.

Our tears were for our loss.
Our dancing was for her life.
And both came from the same place: LOVE.

We are grateful to God that our mother lived well, loved well and left well.

And what a privilege it was for us, her children, to honour her journey home.

This is our culture.
This is our gratitude.
This is how we remember.
This is how we celebrate a life well lived. 🤍

Mummy, we will miss you forever, but we will forever be grateful that you were ours. 🕊️ by @wunmiosode
