When COVID hit, Jaron Summers paused his college lacrosse career, joined the West Virginia Army National Guard and transferred home to WVU. He earned his bachelor's and master's through the accelerated PEK/PETE programs and got real classroom time as the primary PE and health teacher at Preston High. The Center for ActiveWV (@BeActiveWV) awarded $10,000 Be ActiveWV Grants to three Mercer County schools for their work on the Healthy Schools in Action Project. Oakvale Elementary, Mountain Valley Elementary, and Montcalm High School each received funding, which will go toward new "Mountaineer Mile" walking trails, giving students more opportunities to stay active throughout the school day. Congratulations to all three schools on the recognition! by @wvucahs

When the College of Applied Human Sciences partnered with Kanawha County Schools to bring a cohort of teachers into the online Master's in Literacy Education program, the goal was clear: improve reading literacy across the county and make a lasting impact. This weekend, that cohort of teachers graduated with a Master's in Literacy Education from WVU. The teachers did the work. The partnership held up its end. Now those classrooms have something more to offer. by @wvucahs

Emma Halstead, a soon-to-be WVU graduate, wrote a thank-you letter to the professor who changed the way she thinks about teaching math. Professor Johnna Bolyard had no idea it was coming. We brought the two together to share the note. by @wvucahs
