Did you know that WVU Law was recently ranked #5 best law school for public interest by @prelawmagazine? 🤔

Lawyers who practice public interest law help those who cannot afford legal services and the underrepresented, including the poor, the elderly, children and victims of domestic violence.

“Public interest law is at the core of our law school experience,” said Dan Kimble, director of the Center for Law and Public Service, and the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest.

“I was grateful to be chosen to argue this case at the Fourth Circuit and started preparing as much as I could… This was the first true experience I had with a real case, one that meant a lot to me, and I did not want to give it less than my best.”

WVU Law’s U.S. Supreme Court Clinic is one of only 15 in the nation. When student clinician Zach Rohrbaugh argued a client's case in front of the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, he gained an incredible professional experience while also giving one West Virginian a voice in federal court.

What’s scarier than final exams? More spine-tingling than trying to park during a home football game? WVU Law’s annual Halloween party – congratulations to our costume contest winners! by @wvulaw

“Tristan learned more about himself and about the law in one semester than some law students do in three years. What he managed to accomplish is truly unparalleled.”

No Mountaineer goes it alone. Just ask Tristan Henry, whose journey as a first-gen student at WVU Law almost came to an end after one semester. With the help of his professors, he found his potential as a student and turned it into a career as a judge advocate in the United States Navy.

This fall has been jam-packed with professional development opportunities for our students, including experiential learning trips with federal judges, panels with United States Attorneys, and networking days with Pittsburgh-area law firms. A huge thank you to everyone in our law community who makes experiences like these possible! by @wvulaw

WVU Law is bringing expert advice worldwide ✈️🌎

In September, Associate Professor Cody Corliss lectured at the NATO Centre of Excellence – Defence Against Terrorism in Ankara, Turkey. In a class that brought together military officers and lawyers from around the globe, Corliss drew on his experience as a former war crimes prosecutor to discuss how states can combat terrorism during war and how terrorism crimes can be effectively prosecuted in courts of law.

Look who's back on Law School Hill! We had an awesome time meeting up with the extended WVU Law community before the game against Cincinnati, where alumni Marilyn McClure-Demers and Rick Pill were honored at halftime for their service to our University and state.

It's a great day to be a Mountaineer – but then again, every day is. by @wvulaw

Every law student covers big Supreme Court cases. Not everyone covers them in the courtroom.

Yesterday, 3L Lauren Campbell observed Supreme Court arguments in Salazar v. Paramount Global not as a lawyer-to-be, but as an independent reporter. She covered the story as the founder and editor-in-chief of her entertainment magazine, Rock & Roamer.

Congratulations on this amazing opportunity, Lauren! We're always proud to see Mountaineers in court, even if they're not behind the podium. by @wvulaw

West Virginia is where great stories begin – and return to.

Yesterday, Morgantown native Elliott Portnoy visited campus for a talk with our students. As the founding global CEO of Dentons, he built it into one of the world's largest law firms, with more than 12,000 lawyers across 82 countries. He spoke with Mountaineer lawyers-to-be about where the profession is going, where jobs are, and how to compete for them. How’s that for expert advice? by @wvulaw

“WVU Law’s Veterans Advocacy Clinic frequently serves veterans whose legal needs cannot be delayed. In 2025, I assisted a veteran who had received grave medical news and was uncertain how much time he had left.”

Our Veterans Advocacy Clinic works to help veterans with benefits, discharge upgrades, family law matters, and stability in work and housing. Working with the clinic, 2026 alum Gracie Davis raced the clock to help a severely ill veteran create his estate plan. Read her story – link in bio! by @wvulaw

What's better than law school? Law school with cats. 🐈🐈‍⬛

Yesterday, Mountaineers for Mutts brought some feline attorneys to Law School Hill for a professional meet and greet with our students. Thank you to our Animal Legal Defense Fund and Balance Bar for helping us de-stress during midterms! by @wvulaw

Want to start your week on a high note? The WVU Law Class of 2026 has you covered. 📚🧑‍🎓

This past semester, they created a fund to help future WVU Law students afford textbooks and other learning materials. Even better: they named it in honor of our assistant dean for student services and engagement, Jennifer Powell.

Every class of WVU Law students lifts up the next. We couldn’t be prouder of our Mountaineer community!
